I applied for the Shell Platinum Select Mastercard since the station in town changed suppliers, my application wasn't instantly approved, it took about a week to get a decision, I was originally approved for a credit line of $1,600.00, seemed paulty in comparison to what I currently carry in my wallet! Called Citi Bank, and explained that I wanted a higher credit line, they looked over my request, used the same hard pull as they did for my original application, and came back with an increase of $7,260.00? I requested a $5,000.00 credit line, so I was surprised they came back higher and with such an odd limit! I said Ill take it! Thank You! Citi Bank has been great to me! I have multiple Citi cards and have never had an issue with them! Even though the interest rate is exremely high, its a great gas card to have, and definately one you want to pay in full each month! ![]()
Congrats on the approval and recon! Are you from Pittsburgh?
Congrats on your Shell card ![]()
Congrats! Thanks for sharing.
I've been thinking of getting a Shell card just for the fact that where I buy my gas most of the time has a sign that says if I use a shell gas card I can get 5 cents per gallon off my purchase price.
My question is...is that true of all Shell stations or is it just a promotion of some sort. If so, is there a catch, as in do you have to purchase x amount of gas to get it, etc.?
I tried to ask that question at the actual Shell store in my area but the kids who work there don't know.
You have to purchase at least 45 gallons per billing cycle, and the 5 cent off is a credit on your statement. I've had it for almost 2 years. I used it alot when I first got it. I started with a 300 dollar limit and got it up to 900 dollars. I use it once in awhile.. Shell around here has gotten too high, and the 5 cent off isn't anything, compared that the Murphy's at Walmart is lower and the 5 cent comes off automatically at the pump with my walmart discover.

That's the drive for 5 card. That is a store credit card. This is the mastercard and you get a certain amount of that correlates with how much you spend the previous month,
You still have to spend 500 to 999 to get an additional 10 cents off a gallon up to a 100 gallons in the next billing cycle. Shell is about ten cents more a gallon in my area. Also the APR on it is 23.99 %. Like most cards don't worry about the APR , if you PIF every month. You can get better rewards on another card. IMHO the card isn't worth it. I like Shell Gas and my father swears by Shell gas as well.. I use my Drive for 5 card now and them as well, but the MC version isn't worth it.
