Surprise CapOne CLI...on a secured card!

Logged onto my Cap One account today to check things out.  I have a Secured Platinum I got back in December for $200.  A month or so later I got approved for a QS1 and an unsecured Platinum for $500 each, both of which received CLI's of $1000 3 months later via LUV button.  A few weeks ago I was able to upgrade the unsecured Platinum to a QS with rewards.

As I'm looking at my accounts today, I notice one card shows $1700 available credit.  Did a double take as both my unsecured cards have $1500 limits.  After checking the number, I realize they've increased the Secured card limit by $1500!  I had no idea they would do this with secured cards!  It's a nice surprise for sure.

secured, meaning they will take the funds out of your account to meet that limit? Correct me if I am wrong but that is what I think it is? If it was like that, it would be sad when they try to withdraw the payment and no payment is there. Making a ding on your record :/ Hope not, anyway, GRATZ on the other card increases. More love than they are giving me.

Re: Surprise CapOne CLI...on a secured card!

I know they do cli's on secured cards, but it is usually at 6 months mark and the max they will cli on a secured card is $250. I had a secured card with them for $2500 and they cli'd $250 at 6 months after the statement cut off. When i chat with the csr, he said it is something that they do, even if not with all secured accounts, and he said it looks like i got the max cli they give for secured cards. So if your secured card is not at 6th or 7th statement yet, and you got an increase of $1500, i would definitely ask them what is going on, just to be on the safe side. I highly doubt that money will come out of your bank, because in that case, they will never give you the cli before they debit the account first, and get the money. If it is a real cli, then they must have changed some rules and you are one lucky guy Smiley Happy

Don't know much about cli's for secured cards with Cap One, but I have to say "Congrats" to you!  Smiley Happy

got Re: Surprise CapOne CLI...on a secured card!

Just got off Chat with a Cap One rep.  It's legit!  They said they periodically review secured cards and based on credit worthiness and payment history, they will give credit limit increases with no further deposit necessary!  I thanked him and said I'd spread the word!

Re: got Re: Surprise CapOne CLI...on a secured card!

It was a $1500 increase.  The original secured limit was for just $200.  I used it once and paid it in full and never used it again.  Kinda surprising they would give me a CLI that high.

Yeah, that doesn't add up. I'd almost be ready to call and find out what gives. I know everyone's situation is different, but I'd be curious to what their answer would be.

OP,.still congrats to you!!!!
