Kinda off topic here, but how do Target's debit and credit cards compare? I have the debit one and I heard it functions pretty much like the credit one with the 5% off discount every time.
The debit card from Target functions exactly the same.....you still get free shipping and 5%.....the money is just debited from your account.

Also, you can have both the credit and the debit versions. Can be helpful if if starting out with a low CC limit.
I swear the RedCard likes to see a decent balance reported every now and again. I let mine report about $650 when my limit was $800, carried it a statement or two, and when I PIF'd, got my increase to $1300

Started with $300 and went up to $4K and MC conversion in 9 months by using the card and leaving a balance. Before then i would always PIF and it was only after carrying a balance that i started seeing cli's from $300 to $800 to $1300 to $4K in about 6 months.
Congrats on the approval for the Red Card! I shop at Target a lot, so this gets a lot of use for me.
I started at 300 or 500, then up to 700, 900, 1300, and 1900 in about 12 months total. Responsible usage gets you automatic CLIs. Unfortanately you cannot request a CLI from TD Bank for this card, either online or over the phone. They aren't super shy about giving them out, in my experience. I remember all my CLIs have come after I paid off the card and let it post a $0 balance, so maybe that has something to do with it. My scores and overall limits were increasing during this time, so it could have just been my overall profile improving.
Enjoy that 5%!
Thanks for the replies and great info everyone! So the consensus is leave some type of balance to maximize CLIs?
I thought the target mastercard went bye-bye when td bank took it over?

Thanks for the tip. So if I already have other cards or if I don't need another line, perhaps I should stick to my debit?
I've had a Red Card since 2008 and I'm only at $2300.
SIGH
Congrats on approval! Small SLs are par for the course with the redCard...just keep "updating" your income and let a balance post (you can PIF to avoid interest, but wait until after statement close).
Yay congrats! Even if you just use it for regular purchases, 5% off is better than 0% off! And free shipping for online orders :-)
