Been awhile since I've been active here ... but I've been lurking here and there.
So I've been going through a divorce, and I've had to lean on my credit cards quite a bit unfortunately ... between legal fees and repurchasing things my ex was keeping from me, I've reached over 50% UTI overall, so my credit has suffered. Plus my house is still on my credit report even though she's getting it and has to buy out my half of the equity.
But, at the same time, ALL of my inquiries had fallen off, I've missed zero payments in years and I have several smaller store cards with zero balances. So my util hurts, but the rest is pretty dang good. Backstory before this: these boards helped me rebuild enough to qualify for the mortgage on the house in question, so I've been around the block.
So I've been looking for ways to pad my credit limit to take a little bit of the sting out of the util issue. I saw the Venmo CC and my odds seemed favorable based on the data points shared around here. So I decided to go for it, took the TU pull and was approved for $5K. I was kinda floored.
So my TU is the best score I have, right before I apped it was 661, and I knew the credit union I use, Summit CU in southern Wisconsin, always pulls TU (they did for my car loan, they did when I opened the account) so I figured what the heck and decided to app for their card with the idea of BTing some of my other CCs. So I app, ask for $5K and they send a message that says we'll get back to you within one business day.
So I get a call from the loan guy the next day and he's asking me questions about what I want/need and I talk to him about the BT idea and he's like yeah, that's a great idea with our 12 month 0% promo right now. Asks my income, etc ... I mention to him that I want to BT some of this debt so I can then pay it off completely when I get my half of the equity of the house (not a fortune, but it would make a HUGE dent in my debt). Then he said, "What if we can get you bumped up to $10K on that card and then we can transfer some of these other cards too."
I'm like ... sure, that would be amazing. Meanwhile I'm thinking no way.
Calls back an hour later and says you're approved. So in a matter of 48 hours or so I bumped my limits up my $15K. This is my first five-digit limit and to say I'm surprised is an understatement.
Don't overlook your local CUs.
Grats on your Venmo and Local CU approval ![]()
i overlook my local CU for CC as they only offer 12.99% and I get lower from regular banks.
Congratulations on your approvals!
