You think income played a factor as well?, she makes well above 6figs at a top law firm in NYC, what's funny was that she had gotten a call from a Amex manager before she was approved to ask some verification questions, then the next day she got an email saying she was rushed approved.

Definitely. If she had the same profile with lots of available credit, I don't think the approval would have been so large, but Amex likes you not having a lot of available credit, IMO. Don't think U/W has necessarily loosened/gotten stricter, I just think that they like people who don't have tons of available credit open. (Or at least will tend to give them larger CLs)

Here's something interesting, so I had asked my fiancé to app for the Amex everyday card (I get $50 for referral lol), and surprisingly Amex gave her a starting CL of $10K!, I mean what???? The only other card she has is a freedom with a 2k limit -.- lol

Nice!

Keep both your credit and your body in top shape!

My comment wasn't based on this single thread. There are posts all over the forum from people with marginal scores and profiles getting approved not only initially, but getting large CLI's within minutes of activating their card. There are also multiple posts from members apping for two cards, getting a small limit on the first and a large limit on the second - ala Cap One. Something has clearly changed.

Re: WOAH Amex :)

Congrats to her!  I also believe that AMEX dislikes one to having lots of available credit at their disposal.  They have become quicker with the FR's lately due to consumers becoming more credit saavy.

FICO scores are your calling card to the business world. Build a negative reputation and those doors are hard to open, find that perfect balance of credit responsibility and those doors open when you desire them.
