Wings Financial

Ecstatic about my new Wings Financial cc approval today. $7,500 CL. Very surprised because this card had a $5,000 minimum CL, and I really didn't think I'd be approved. Applied last Thursday when my state taxes (two years worth) finally caught up to me. At the time I owed, I was in dire straits financially and just could pay. So I didn't file. Though I'm still paying catch up with my bills, I've also been rebuilding my credit for the past three years and have been able to pay down some debt using my BofA and Discover 0% bal transfer offers. Just when I was down to my last $1,000, in cc debt, here comes my State tax bill. Sigh. The Dept. of Revenue only gave me about 10 days to get something figured out in order to take advantage of payment in full to get the penalties abated. If I don't pay in full by 10/22 (this Friday) I'll have to pay nearly $400 in fees for 2017 and about $100 in fees for 2018. So another BT it is on my Discover card -- kicking my utilization back up over 30%. Plus, my BT fee was $68. But even so I still save about $330 in tax fees. So that's a win.

Now I have to deal with my 2018 state taxes. About $400 with $100 in fees that they will forgive if I pay in full by Friday. Thankfully I have 0% APR for purchases on BofA until next October. But my CL is only $1,200 and they will not raise my limit. So that's where my new Wings cc will come in handy. I'll surely be taking at vantage of transferring that balance over to this card to knock down the BofA utilization. Although my usuage on Discover will be through the roof for awhile,  my new Wings CL will keep my overall usage at about 14%.

At the moment, I can't worry about my credit score too much. Gotta take care of finances first and the score will eventually take care of itself.

Concerning the tax part of your post. have you asked them for a payment plan? most states will set you up with a payment plan for back taxes if you owe a balance you cant pay at once. I dont know if your state does but its likely since even the irs offers them. It doesnt hurt to ask. usually they break up the payments over a 3 year period with added interest. Its an option if available to get that monkey off your back.

Yeah, I evaluated all the pros and cons of doing a payment plan, and it just wasn't the best option. For example, they would not abate the fees if I did a payment plan. That alone was enough to make me look for pay-in-full options. Not to mention everytime you make a payment, they charge you a fee to make the payment. Jeeze!

Re: Wings Financial

Wow, your state stinks as far as that goes. i had an agreement once with my state and they just debited my checking on a set day for no fee.

Then later i had an agreement with the irs that was very pliable. they took , checks or money orders or could debit your bank account and give you a discount of 2 bucks a payment.

The thing thats dangerous about these tax issues is if you run afoul with the state or fed it will show up on your cr's as a negative public record for years even after you pay it off. in my case i made agreements and avoided that.

Yes it does! I honestly didn't have many GOOD payment options. Thank goodness I am able to move these balances to 0% APR cards. It has saved me at least $500. Now I'll just spend the winter paying these balances down — again.
