After doing some major rebuilding the past few months, I decided to take a chance and apply for the Capital One QS1 card. CreditKarma recommended it, and Capital One's prequalified site said I prequalify for it, so I thought I had a good shot, but didn't get I'd get a huge CL - I was thinking maybe $700 - $1000 if I'm lucky. Just applied, and got approved for 3K!! I was absolutely shocked because my scores aren't all that great (626, 632, 656). They're not bad, but they're not good. I applied for a Barclay's one and got denied, and applied for the QS1 right after.
I'm pretty excited about that since my credit was laden with charge offs and collections from 2011 & 2012, so I can't even imagine what my scores were back then. I do have a CO Secured card that now has $750 CL (they upped it from the original $200 since I was paying on time), and a Merrick Bank card that now has $1,400. So with this card, my total available credit is $5,150. So exciting!!!!
Congratulations! At the risk of sounding like a broken record because I just said this on another thread, I recommend you use the card for a couple months and then call and try to get it converted into a no annual fee Quicksilver. Usually, they require a $3,000 limit but you already have that!
Oh I absolutely will do that. It was already on my mind. I was actually going to try calling tomorrow, since I already have the secured with an AF. I think the requirements for the non-AF version are higher than for this one, but it would be great if I can get rid of the AF. But I think your idea of using it for a few months then asking may work better. Maybe I'll wait 6 months, since it looks like they give you a CLI after you making the first 5 payments on time, so then I'll have some leverage in that I'll have kept the account in good standing for 6 months.
Congrats!
You might not even need 6 months. I was able to convert my Capital One Platinum MC ($3000 limit) to a no AF Quicksilver after one month. Always remember, it never hurts to ask!
I was approved after being denied Barclaycard online by recon.
They are really nice and I am sure you could get a little $500 to start...
