Here's my story. I remember apping and receiving a Target Store card in 1996 around age 17 or 18. I think it was around 2000 when my card automatically converted to a Target Visa. Why I haven't caught this a long time ago who knows? I noticed my Target Visa card says cardmember since 2000. If I opened my Target store card in 1996, should my Target Visa and credit reports say 1996? I did not app for the Target Visa in 2000. I apped for a Target store card in 1996.
I sent Target an email and I'm waiting for a positive reponse. I hope they be like AMEX and change it because I think I am correct. If not, I will have to go the extreme and seek BBB. Your thoughts appreciated.
Sounds like they closed your store card and opened a new card to "upgrade" you to the visa.
i am thinking when your card converted they closed out your "store card" for the visa so it would have been a new account and I will assume the acct #'s are different as well?? I am basing this on various other post I have read through the last couple of years but you never know YMMV

If that's what they did, they pulled the same crap US Bank did. I hope they quickly correct it. I would hate to see this escalate.
I just did some research. The Target Store Card was first introduced in 1995. The Target Visa was introduced in 2001. So I guess, I'm off by one year when my card became a Target Visa. Now, I'm really confused why my card is saying member since 2000. There's an error somewhere.
It sounds the same to me.
Everytime the lenders sell my student loans to another lenders. I got "new" accounts on my credit report and I can't do anything abou that.![]()
If they do not back date me to 1996 automatically, I know how I'm going to approach this. I'll begin with reminding them the history of when the cards were introduced. And since this was 15 years ago, I am going to raise doubts about the accuracy of their records.
One more note. When I received the Targt Store card, they automatically sent me a Marshall Fields card. I need to find out when Target aquired Marshall Fields.
DI,
Do you really have to start **bleep** with every company that issues you a card?

Thanks for asking that question. If there's an error then yes. I don't let things get sweeped under the rug. If it affects my credit and cost me money, absolutely I'm going to make an inquiry with the company. I worked too hard to maintain my long credit history. I'm not going to let an error with any of my cards I carry go unnoticed.
