I just checked Discovery.com Pre-qual page to see if I qualified for anything, I do have a Discovery it card since this past March and have made perfect payments, a few times the minimum but normally a bit more like $50 vs $35 which was the minimum, one of the reasons "too few accounts paid as agreed" is total nonsense, I always paid at least the minimum. Experian has me pre-qualified for some very good cards currently so why would they be bad mouthing me to Discover?
I was denied pre-qual for reasons below:
Type of credit score FICO
Your credit score 741
Date July 26, 2019
Scores range from a low of 300 to a high of 850
Key factors that affected your credit score were as follows:
LENGTH OF TIME ACCOUNTS HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED
LACK OF RECENT INSTALLMENT LOAN INFORMATION
TOO FEW ACCOUNTS CURRENTLY PAID AS AGREED
LENGTH OF TIME REVOLVING ACCOUNTS HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED
NUMBER OF INQUIRIES ON CREDIT BUREAU
This information was provided to us by Experian Information Solutions, Inc., a consumer reporting agency.
Experian does not say "too few accounts paid as agreed" or anything else. That is from FICO scoring based on the info in the report. It is done in a uniform way based on equations. Nobody at Experian is writing those comments about you. Those are known as "reasons." There are also positive "reasons" but they aren't displayed as often, because if you're approved, you probably won't care why you were approved.
I have a very young profile, and even though I've made every payment on time or early, I get "too few accounts reporting paid as agreed", because I haven't met whatever the threshold is - such as, percent of accounts that have three consecutive on-time payments. I don't have many accounts showing three payments yet, so, that is why I get that "reason." If you think about your situation, it'll probably be stuff like that.
And, again, the Experian matches are not "prequalifications" or anything similar. As best I can tell, they are based on Experian thinking that your Experian score is in the range of Experian scores that are usually approved for the card. Actual approvals are MUCH less directly based on FICO scores than their suggestions. Cardmatch and individual issuers' prequalifications are much more reliable.

My Discover iT card I got in March 2019 with $1750 limit, asked recently for an increase with a soft pull and got the dreaded letter, basically they said I have not been with them long enough. No late payments and have a zero balance. I have no other credit or debt.
I am self employed, have owned my business for 19 years now and I am basically semi retired and just applied for social security in May, I turned 62 in June.
I got a Exclusive Invitation from Chase for their Chase Ink Business Unlimited card. Have not applied yet, I figured this card is for big corporations or at least a business that brings in much more than me a year, have no idea even if I would get approved since Chase always requires applicants to have at least 2 years of credit history, I have just under 2 years (1 year 10 months) any suggestions on this? My income now is around $26,000
I have only 1 inquiry on my record which was from Discover back in March, I have checked into some pre-qualified offers by going to various credit card websites and entering my info, Chase does not offer me anything, might be because they sent me an offer already, not sure.
Citi did not offer me anything at all, AMX offered me 3 choices, Gold Card, Magnet Card, and Everyday Card, I know very well I do not qualify for a Gold Card nor an Everyday Card which I have read you have to have Excellent Credit Score, so don't know what AMX is up to with those offers?? I don't like Capital One, their cheapskates when it comes to credit limits, they only gave me increases in $100 increments.
Anyone have a recommendation on a credit card that will most likely get me a $2,000 credit limit? I am doing some home renovations soon and need that much.
FICO 741
TRANSUNION 732
EQUIFAX 720
I would say go for the Cash Magnet card.

@Anonymous wrote:I asked Capital One a few months ago for a CLI on my Platinum card, I had a limit of $850, all they gave me was a $100 bump to $950 so it looks like they don't like me or is it just because of that card? Seriously doubt they would give me over $500, just tried to fill out a Capital One Pre-qual app but they are asking for my entire SSN# so I am not going to fill it out.
@ChargedUp wrote:When I had a similar credit file to the OP's I picked up Chase Freedom Unlimited with a $4500 SL and Discover with a $5500 SL, although my income is somewhat higher, I'd think you'd get at least a $3K SL from Chase.
-BB&T is a good place to start (If you're in their geo-footprint.) SP approvals, so no inquiries on your report.
-BBVA has been giving some decent SL's if you're in their service area as well. Clearpoints has selectable bonus categories which may work out for you on home improvement purchases.
-You could look into joining a local credit union. At the smaller ones, you may be able to talk face to face with the person who makes the credit line decisions and get an idea what they would approve you for ahead of time. If you have *any* military background, look into Navy Federal CU. They tend to be quite generous with their SL's.
-If you want Amex, go for it! Even if they don't start you out with the SL you want, it'll grow over time with prudent use and payments.
-Check Capital One's pre-qual page. You have history with them and if they show you as pre-approved for Savor or Venture, those both have **minimum** $5K SL's.
Do the pre-qual and hit travel rewards. (Savor *used to be* a $5K minimum it seems.) It's not a HP, even though they ask for a full SSN. I've used it many times and no HP until I actually app'd for my Savor card. If Venture comes up, you're good for at least a $5K SL.
BTW, while not a bank card, Synch seems to give out high limits on the Lowes card (if you can use Lowes for your project). One call to the India call center tends to get people immediate CLI's well into 5 digits no matter what their SL is. Just another data point ![]()

If you want a second Discover card, you cannot apply until your first card is at least a YEAR old....
If im reading you correctly, you just got one in march... if thats not it.. its because you have too many fresh accounts....
If your trying for a CLI... Discover is unpredictable .. and you still might get something unprompted... Or wait a month and try again...
If it were me. I'd be heading to a Cash Magnet if your not sure of points and such... Think it still has a small SUB ......
Then my next stop would be the Garden...
