2022 Credit card offers

I'm currently at 4/24. I'm about to pull the trigger on the cap 1 venture X card app. Since I am 4/24 I was looking at Chase to see if there was anything worth apping for. Frankly I am not super impressed with the SUBs. I just finished the United Quest spend so I don't need that. I am not eligible for a SUB on the sapphire cards, the spend requirement on the Ink cards feels too high for what I get in exchange. Even the hyatt card doesn't seem like a great deal (although I currently hold that card). Am I missing something or are a lot of the chase offers pretty meh? Since this is January will we see updated offers imminently or is this likely what they will be for awhile?

Other than the Venture X are there any other compelling cards out there worth a good look? I gotta wait another year on citi TY cards. The AA cards that I am eligible for do not look super compelling. Thinking I'll just pull the trigger on the cap 1 card today unless it is common for banks to announce new credit card offers within the first half of January, specifically Chase due to my being at 4/24.

Re: 2022 Credit card offers

Like with any card YMMV on what you deem to be a good Sub or a good fit for your wallet. The Reserve and the Preferred card are the 2 main ones people try to stay under 5/24 for.

If you don't see value in them then go on and sub for another brand.

As for any special offer it should be available long enough for you to fall back under the 5/24 and apply for it.

Best way to play the credit card game is to apply for a new card every 4 months that way if you do see a chase card you want then all you have to do is wait an extra 4 months to fall below the 5/24 limit.

As mentioned I am not eligible for the SUB on the sapphire cards. Couple of months ago picked up the CSP. It will be an eight month wait before I go back under 5/24 if I get the cap 1 card.

Re: 2022 Credit card offers

One other move I am considering is an offer I have from Amex. On my business gold card they are making me an upgrade offer to the plat of 140,000 points for 10k spend in three months. That is a pretty decent offer. If I pull the trigger by 1/13 I can get it at the AF of $595. I'm going to cancel the business gold card if I do not upgrade it. The drawback is I would need to spend 10k in 3 months on a charge card which is a bit steep with no immedate upcoming travel vs 10k over six months on the venture X which will easily be done.

I already have the personal plat card but that AF at the new rate will hit in March. I was going to have the venture X card potentially take its place for lounge access.  Whether or not I keep the personal plat going forward is very iffy at this point. The business plat could be useful for lounge access and I could pay my phone bill with it and get $10 a month off the bill for a total of $120. That would be about the extent of my use for the business plat benefits though.

The cap 1 travel credit is not the greatest but I could probably figure out a way to use it to get the $300 credit. For those that say both the problem with that could be that the cap 1 venture offer goes away at some point in the next three months. There is no way I would take on both cards in the same three month period for spend.

You can get a pretty good return if you play upgrade/downgrade games with personal Gold/Platinum as well as Business Gold/Platinum cards...assuming you and any AUs aren't especially tied to any given feature.

Schwab is un-PC-able but it's not out of the question that I might downgrade the Business Platinum after a year. I've done most of what I needed Adobe for, and at some point I might not have much use for the Dell credits.

If you're mostly using Priority Pass (as opposed to Delta, Centurion, Escape, etc.), there are definitely cheaper ways to get it than Amex Platinum.

1.5 months in, I'm still in the process of meeting my Business Platinum SUB...$15k for 150k. With that and plenty of points and certificates still to use on the travel side, I don't see myself adding any cards for a few months at least.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

Yes I have upgraded/downgraded amex charge cards previously so I agree with you. I also have held an amex business plat card in the past. I think it was a couple of years ago and the gold card I have now I got like last April so it might make more sense to take advantage of the upgrade offer now given I have had the business plat in the past and the lower AF. 10K is really my spend limit within a 3 month period. Still I am not thrilled with the idea of needing to come up with all that spend, especially since I paid off soo many bills at the end of the year. My offer to upgrade expires in April so I have time but if I do it after 1/13 I will get hit with higher AF.

If I take this upgrade offer how will it impact my AF? Will I just pay the difference between the plat and gold for the time left until my renewal date in April and then I will get hit with the new AF in April? I kinda remember this being the way it worked. If so, there is no need for me to rush to get the plat upgrade as it won't save me that much money on the AF by applying now vs waiting until april.

If waiting to April on the plat I can go for the Venture X now and then reassess in a few months if I want to do the upgrade on the plat.

Re: 2022 Credit card offers

Since I believe the lower AF on the amex plat would only be good until April and then I would be hit with the new AF at the higher rate I ended up deciding to wait on the plat upgrade. I have until mid april to accept that. I went for the venture X and got an instant approval of 30k, so other than things that are like 5x points per dollar spent I will just thow everything on the venture X.
