Re: 2025: Setting Your >2025< Annual Card Strategy

Have you considered adding the Chase Freedom Flex to your portfolio? I feel like it could compliment your CSR well.

Nothing exciting this year.

Need to hit SUB on new CSR, then see how the Chase travel portal works for my situation, and depending on the next 12 months will determine if I keep my Amex platinum. In the interim I'll keep up with the amex coupon book of benefits to justify the AF along with hammering the Centurion lounge bar to really get the most out of it lol. More than likely I'll hit the SUB on the CSR, use the travel credit, and downgrade it to the CSP next year before the AF hits because I get a lot of use out of my Platinum card.

Costco card for gas

Chase Amazon Prime for Amazon

Then have to figure out what to do with my Citi AA card. Not sure I want to pay the $99 AF if I'm going to be moving my spend to the CSR. CSR has better dining multiplier so not sure I'll spend enough on it to get the annual $125 aa certificate... Might PC it to a no AF Citi card but we'll see. Maybe the Custom Cash for grocery spend to get the 5x.

And in the sock drawer

bofa unlimited cash - should probably close. got it for a SUB

Penfed power cash rewards - don't even remember why I opened this

Discover it - should probably close this but I've had it for a long time

amex blue cash every day - no real use but it's one of my oldest cards

Can't really think of any new cards to get now that I have the csr.

Depending on how I feel about the CSR at the end of the year that's certainly an option. I just want to make sure the Chase ecosystem is something I get value out of before opening any more cards. Thanks for the recommendation.

Current active cards:
Amex - Platinum, BCE
BofA - Unlimited Cash Rewards Sig
Chase - CSR, Amazon Prime
Citi - Custom Cash, Costco Visa
TCL - $270k
CC utili - 2%
Experian - 804

Re: 2025: Setting Your >2025< Annual Card Strategy

My first credit goal for 2025 is not buy a car. LOL!! In less than 2 years I bought three and had four auto loans. I bought  2023 Acura TLX Type S. Financed $60k with NFCU March 2023. Then September '23 I bought a low mileage 2016 Camaro SS. Ended up trading both of them on a '25 Acura TLX Type S in November 2024. Exactly one month later I refinanced the '25 Acura TLX Type S with NFCU.

Surprisingly I did not apply for any credit cards in 2024.

I just got my first AMEX. Blue Cash Everyday with $8,000 starting limit. Gonna age it a couple months before I apply for the AMEX Gold card. But those two are the only ones in my radar. Hoping the Gold has a good SUB in June. Would love to use it for my annual car insurance payment July 1st.

Penfed has been very blah lately so I will probably sock drawer both of those cards. No love from Apple either so time will tell on that one.

Downgraded my Savor card to the no annual fee Savor card.

Re: 2025: Setting Your >2025< Annual Card Strategy

My credit goals for 2025 are pretty simple...don't apply for any additional credit, and don't use more of the credit that I have. I got a new card last year, so my AoYA finally reached 12 months this month, bringing my scores up. Now I just have to resist the urge to apply for another card lol.

Gonna be a busy year of travel, but other than the travel, gonna try my best not to spend too much.

As of now, I'm at 3/24, and I'll be a 2/24 in January 2025 for Chase. For Citi, I would be a 0/6, 1/12, 2/24 for new accounts.

The current cards on my RADAR for 2025 are:

  1.  Chase Ink Business Unlimited (CIU) as a Sole Prop.
  2. Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve. As of now I'm pre-appoved for both. Waiting for the elevated offer that is above the normal 60K UR points.
  3. AMEX Platinum "upgrade" with a SUB above 80K MR points. Or the Charles Schwab Plat if I'm not in pop-up jail still.
  4. Maybe the AMEX BCP if I do the Platinum "upgrade,"  to replace the AMEX Gold (but I also have the Cap1 Savor so IDK yet). I'm already approved as of now, I just have to finish submitting the app.
  5. Citi Shop Your Way.  Depending on what I do with options 1-4, I plan on apply for this card hit 0/6 again.
  6. Chase AMZ Prime.  Depending on my 5/24 status at the the end of 2025, I plan on applying for this card during the Holiday Season with hopefully with the $200 AMZ gift card.

My plan right now is too stay in the garden at least until Q2, as the CFF for 2025 Q1 has "Groceries" as a category. Groceries is a major part of my monthly spend, and it would be hard for me to hit heavy spend SUB without this category. Once we are in Q2 my next app will be a  Chase Card (Ink or Sapphire) due to their 50% income to available credit rule.

Here Quick update: And now change of plans:

  1. Changed my mind on the Chase Business Ink Unlimited and app'ed and was approved for the Business Cash. (SUB already complete)
  2. Patience Paid Off, and I sat and waited for the elevated SUB. Was Appoved for the CSP with my 2nd highest SL ($20.9K).
  3. Took AMEX's bait with their 100K MR SUB upgrade offer since I was in pop-up jail with any cold apps I tried.
  4.  I don't think I'm going to go for the BCE or any for AMEX CB cards any time soon. If I do open up a AMEX Credit Card, it would be a co-banded hotel card for status (need to get smart of life time/family card rules).
  5.  Might not happen, I been eye balling the US Bank Cash+ (and I have a current targeted offer). The Citi SWY down fall for me is Sears/Kmart point system-->gift card redeem system. With US Bank, I might open a checking/saving for the SUB before app for the Cash+.
  6. The AMZ card is still loosely in my plans for the holidays, I'll either be a 2/24 if I don't open any new cards or 3/24 if I open the Cash+.
  7. I'm add the BILT card to my RADAR. I'm currently renting since I moved cross county but landlord only takes ACH transfer to their bank account. However, I still own a house that I pay a morgage on, if BILT figures how to houseowners can pay the bank I will be applying.

Re: 2025: Setting Your >2025< Annual Card Strategy

A little late to the thread, but only found this community a few weeks ago!

On the personal CC side, I'm at 4/24 until June 2026, so I'm saving that last Chase slot for a "break in case of emergency situation" (AKA too good of a SUB to pass up Robot tongue). However, I'd like to get a CLI on my Bilt card, as having to float 2 months of rent on it gets me closer to the current limit than I'd like.

For my "business", I'm considering one of the Inks in the late summer/fall, especially if there's an elevated SUB. Another option would be the IHG Premier card as I find myself going more and more towards that loyalty program.

Cheers!
