24 Month Credit Card Plan - Looking for advice on if my logic is sound

So in the last 9 months I opened a ridiculous amount of cards, but I had a reason for it.  My credit age is virtually zero (AAoA is 3 months, longest open account is 8 months, oldest good closed account is just under 10 years since closed and will be dropping off soon as I understand it)

I am safely in the garden for the next 12-18 months but, I wanted to see if anyone saw holes in my plan going forward.  I am going to split up my cards by category (Visa/MC keepers vs potentials vs drop) and then explain what I am trying to do.  As my credit rebuilds and grows more solid over the coming months, the great cull is going to take place.  This is the plan.

=== Visa's and Mastercards ===

- Capital One Secured Platinum opened in March 2017 - 500 limit, oldest card I have, they still owe me 99 bucks they have in deposit, and I am waiting to see if they ever unsecure it (ive heard tale of CapOne recently unsecuring cards at the one year mark) if they do unsecure it, I plan to ask them to merge this CL with...

- Capital One QS1 opened August 2017 - 300 limit,

Whether they combine or not, both cards I plan to keep (unless I can find a way to get out of the AF on the QS1, but ive heard they are a tough nut there.)

The goal there is for one solid CapOne card to hold onto for a good long time.  My main spender and my oldest account.

- Citibank Best Buy Visa - 2000 limit opened August 2017.  This is my high limit big purchase card, rarely has been used, but its my biggest "bank card" I have.

- Credit One Visa - 450 limit opened May 2017 - schedules for cancellation April 2018 UNLESS they waive AF permanently.

- Indigo Mastercard - 300 limit opened July 2017 - scheduled for cancellation June 2018, no chance I am keeping.

=== Store Cards ===

- Walmart Synchrony - Limit 500 opened august - this card I have heard upgrades pretty reliably, I plan to keep it, and I know it grows like a weed.

- Walmart Amazon - limit 600 opened august - erroneous card, wanted the chase visa, ended up with this.  plan to keep as it can grow like crazy, but plan to get chase visa whenever I can - use amazon quite a bit

- BP Gas Station card - limit 200 opened august - this card has up to 25 cents off a gallon and can upgrade to visa version.  Planned keeper as it like all synch cards can grow.

- William Sonoma Store - Limit 2550 opened May 2017 - this card has a visa version, but it is very unclear as to whether it auto upgrades or whether it is a new apply/close of the old tradeline.  Either way, this store card may or may not be kept based on that reasoning.  Its only purpose at this time is utilization.  The moment something better comes along, its perma sockdrawered.  If it upgrades, then we can re-evaluate

- Wayfair Store - :Limit 2500 opened May 2017 - just a util padder, has no upgrade option, useful for occasional towels i guess.  Scheduled for cancellation in 18-24 months if they dont close it sooner.

- King Size Direct Store - Limit 650 opened May 2017 - slow grower, I actually use this card though.  Pity it barely moves and has no upgrade options.  Plan to keep but this card is my biggest annoyance in the keepers category.

- Overstock Card - Limit 2350 Opened Sept 2017 - This card pisses me off.  It has a Mastercard version with  DIFFERENT BANK.  -_-  Scheduled to be closed 18-24 months as its only good for padding Util and building history.

- Victoria Secret Card - Limit 350 opened May 2017 - the only comenity card to never grow, and the least useful as I am a guy.  Used once to buy something for my girl.  Scheduled for deletion.  Though with its low limit that has never grown, I might do that during the indigo/creditone cull.  Only useful for AAoA while my newer cards age.

- Target REDCard - Limit 300 opened September - I shop at target a little bit.  It can upgrade, it can grow slow.  Plan to keep, but with a close eye on how much it grows or if I feel jerked around by it.  18-24 months if it hasnt grown significantly or upgraded, it might go bye bye

- Home Depot Card - limit 500 opened august 2017 - this card is useless.  For some reason I cannot fathom, every time I try to do anything with this card, Citibank wants to call me and verify my phone number.  Dont know what I plan to do with it past that, if it grows or something maybe, but ugh.

I know this is some long winded wall of text level stuff here, but the plan is in 2 years time to have 8-10 solid open tradelines with decent limits (mix of store and bankcard) with an AAoA of nearly 2 years.  The crappy builder cards with the high AF's will be gone, the useless store cards I never use will be gone, and I should have a good loadout with way more CL than I have now.

Then I can try for the good stuff.  the 700+ stuff.  The stuff that potentially has higher SL than my total CL combined does today.  It irritates me to no end that my "use anywhere" limit is 3600 but that accounts for only about 20 percent of my available credit.  Thank god amazon and walmart store cards are actually useful eh?

My first advice is to STOP! Seems your already there and ready to garden, but I wanted to be extra sure!

You have a lot of credit lines but they are all toy limits.... so there is some work to be done. Next steps will have to be done strategically.

Combine your cap1s and then see if your eligible to upgrade to QS.

Close indigo and credit 1.

Come back for next steps. You have too many Sync and Comenity cards... and while they are easy approvals, they are easy shut downs. Again, we have to be strategic.

Id also recommend actually using your BestBuy Visa since it can be used everywhere and it actually does offer some nice rewards,not the best, but they do offer some good promos. Also this is my personal feeling, by using my BB at tge begining and establishing good payment history, that this helped open the door to better Citi products and their legacy side. I soon after got a mailer for the DC so i feel the BB card is well worth it. Also gotta love they give you the choice on store or VisaSmiley Happy

is my logic sound here - hope that is a ? .. if you want a bunch of colorful low limit cards yes, I would say mission accomplished  if you want feedback I would close everything but the QS1, get a ssl and use the qs1 to death, max and pif until a pre-qual show for a qs or venture and app for it.  store cards are worthless imo.

Re: 24 Month Credit Card Plan - Looking for advice on if my logic is sound

OP, you've done what I did late last year/early this year. We live and we learn. It's quite exciting getting approvals until realization kicks in. I found with the low limit cards, it was difficult to make purchases, carry a balance, and yet have less than 10% util report on an individual card. It bacame furstrating to me, so I then closed all cards that were under $1000, some, I had only had 2 months. To my surpirse, after about 3 months time, my scores increased (above 670) and the CLI buttons worked versus giving me the "letter" message. Granted, my util was/is less than 1% and all my other credit report items were being paid on time (oldest nstallment account 12 years/oldest CC account 8 years). At the start of this year, my highest card limit was $1100. Now, my highest card is $14,300 and my lowest limit card is $2500. I still have 3 store cards (Walmart, Amazon, and Belk, but the limits are over $5000). Discover just approved me for a 2nd card SL $13,500. I truly believe creditors do look at your limits on other cards, not because of what people say on here, but because I feel I just lived through it. I must also add that my overall reports still contain 5-8 baddies that I've given up on having removed. Life goes right on! This post is meant to be inspirational and I hope you take it as such. I believe you'll see your way through as you already have a plan in place. Best Wishes!!!
