2nd Discover

Discover was the first prime card I got after I started my rebuild. I've had the IT Chrome just over a year, got the cashback match, started CL of 12K which is now 18K. I have carried a balance pretty much during the entire 0% interest period, which ends this month. Since my last CLI around Jan-Feb of this year, any time I hit the love button I get denied and the letters are not enough experience with the current limit. I went ahead and paid off the last 300 bucks that were left from carrying the balance( I think the highest it ever got was about 6K)

I just learned from another post that you can get a second Discover card and they will give you the same deal of 14 months 0% and do the cashback match on it. I was tihnking of getting the 5% categories card, even though that will be a little of a pain to figure out when to use it or another card like my Savor One with 3% at restaurants.

Anyway, for those who have gotten a second card, did they give you a decent starting limit even with your first card or does the limit really say as much as they will give. And the second card wound up with a much lower limit? I'm not interested in taking a hard pull for a couple of grand padding, but if I would be looking at something a lot higher such as a 10K or more starting then I may consider it.

My income is a little higher than when I got my first card and my scores are a good bit higher, probably to the tune of 100 points. Thoughts?

Re: 2nd Discover

You SL will most likely be lower than the 12k they gave you initially as that is a VERY generous SL for Discover.  I would expect a 5k ish SL if you went for another one.  Also Discover doesn't really care persay about income or scores as many of us have very high incomes and high scores in the 800's and get laughable limits due to the amount of credit we already have, etc.  Trying to predict a SL with discover you mise well just throw a dart on the dart board blindfolded and what it lands on is your SL basically.  Long story short dont expect another 12k SL as I doubt that will happen.  Also imo they dont take relationships of having another of their cards into consideration in my humble opinion, although others might think differently which is fine cause as mentioned no one can figure them out.  Best of luck whatever you choose to do and DP's are always welcome although with discover the more DP's that come the more confused we all are about how they decide who to give what to

Re: 2nd Discover

I got my first DC in early 2018, the basic IT card... My Fico at that time was in the upper 680's to low 690's... I got a SL of only 1,500... but with some periodic spend (nothng ever more than about $700 in any month and usually PIFed within one or two months after) I was able to get it CLIed up to $5,000 today..  In March of this year (so a little more than one year after my first DC) I applied for their DC IT Miles - based on a pre-approved/qualified off their website.  At that time, my Fico had grown to around 710 or so.. I was instant approved and given a SL of $3,000..  like my first DC card, I've put some periodic spend on it and PIF'ed monthly or next month.. Today my CL on tht IT Miles is $6,000; so it's doubled in around 9 months.

Based only on my case, it looked like Discover set my SL on my second (Miles) card on data at that time and not based on what my older DC card was estabushed over a year ago.

Re: 2nd Discover

Up until this year, i was in the garden for 4 years, i took 2 HPs since February. I am preapproved for Discover at 13.74% - wondering to take the final hit and go back in the garden for a few more years? On one hand, the offered interest rate suggests that they dont hate me - but afraid to hp for a small CL (currently have $0/$18k with them) - Chase, on the other hand, gives me pop ups, saying i'm allroved $12k CL - not sure which way to jump (if any lol)
