Did anyone else get this offer from Barclaycard?
Checked my email this morning and found one from Barclaycard offering 3% cashback bonus on all purchases made within the next quarter up to $25 cashback. Activated the offer. If I understand correctly, that would mean I get 5% back for all purchases up to $25 cashback, then it would go back to the normal 2%. I'm not a big spender, so this works really well in my favor. Can easily charge $500 on it in the next 3 months to max out the promo. This is for the Commence card, which ironically enough only activated a few weeks ago and used for the first time this past week.
Yeah, the headline grabs your attention. Then the elation leaves when you notice it's temporary. Still $25 for normal spending is nice. I haven't been offered, but that's okay as I carrying a balance transfer on that card and won't use it until it clears.
Wow how generous of the subprime issuer to offer up to $25 cash back in the fine print, but putting "3% cash back" in huge letters.
I was going to jump to this 3% cash back card. Even a $50/year fee is worth it. ![]()

How is Barclau subprime. If they are subprime them Chase and Citi are subprime as well.
The anti-Barclays sentiment swells.
From time to time, Citi does similar things on its cards, offering special bonuses on various categories. These are a) capped at the same $25 and b) usually less than 3 extra percent, but people here seem very happy to get them

Well, Barclays replaced, arguably, the best card (Sallie Mae) with the worst card (Commence). Most of us would never own it, but it arrived automatically as a replacement. I heard they originally named it Commence Yawning, but shortened it upon release. ![]()

Yes, but.... The AmEx offers are great. But it is still hard to use. It requires micro management and a lot of time to do it. It is like clipping coupons. Some people just give it up.
