Re: $5000 Credit Limits

In my opinion 5k is a good starting prime limit. Like many others, I remember when my CapOne card graduated to 1500 from 500 I was on cloud 9 and thought I reached the gates of a "great limit" then I applied for my CSP, Marriot, and Ritz and got 5k on each. That's when my eyes opened. But honestly 5k isn't enough for me, and not in the sense that I spend 5k a month (more like 1200) but because it doesn't (for me) feel comfortable if a large expense were to come up and I needed to put it on the card, it would almost deport the limit and buffer for UTL. But I guess that's why we get multiple cards right? I'm begin to prefer (and working towards) two high limit 25k+ cards. Instead of multiple 5k cards.

In you all's opinion, is a $5000 CL the demarcation point between a "toy limit" and a "respectable" limit? I'm not talking about for the MyFico community, because I know we never stop there, But just curious as both Capital One and BoA websites say that $5000 CL makes you a made man.

lol

Not sure I follow this. So if CapOne tells me I have to pop a cap in someone, I have to?

Re: $5000 Credit Limits

I thought it would be a while before I get to a $5K limit. Now that I've achieved that I'd like to hit $10K then call it quits lol.

5K unsecured means you are prime.

Cool, I'm 1/7th prime. Hopefully, in 8 days, I'll be 2/7th prime.

Re: $5000 Credit Limits

When you get instantly approved with more than a 2-3,000 limit, and you begin to expect nothing less, you're prime. IMO.

I want all my cards at a minimum of 5,000. I want my Discover to stay my highest limit. I will never ask for a CLI on this card ever again. If they(or any other company) randomly gives it, hey...

For me, any joy of seeing a high CL is offest by the fact that I will have to pay it back if used.

My daughter, 18 years old, just got a 3x CLI on her Amex BCE. She didn't ask for the full amount, just $10k. Me? I'm still sitting on $1k with them but $20k on each of my NFCU cards. Consider me a happy humper! Smiley Wink
