AA Vacations MCC ?

Does anyone know what American Airlines Vacations ( AAvacations.com) codes as exactly.

I would like to use my Platinum card as I'm about to purchase a very expensive Vacation package but am not sure what card to use.

I've tried searching everywhere and cant find an answer

Re: AA Vacations MCC ?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong....but I believe if you want to use the Plat to get the 5x pts, you would have to book thru the Amex travel portal (this doesn’t apply to booking flights only as you can book on the airline site and will get the 5x).

I used the AA travel portal once for a vacation package a few years ago, when I had the Barclay Aadvantage MC.....I didnt even look at what it coded as.

I ended up putting it on the BBP.

The charge came through as American Airlines ( Travel - Airlines) I wonder if I could have used my Platinum card. The extra 12,000 points would have sure been nice.

Not late yet...No penalty when you cancel within 24 hours.  If I were you, I would chase 10k MR all the way.....especially when it was my money.

You were to quick. lol

I would have said the same, and you could also use the Airline Statement credit if you still have any left.

I ended up deciding to switch it to the Platinum even though i'm betting its going to come back and bite me.

I wish I still had airline credits left. I've used them all up. I've already spent $8,000 on flights this year and january hasn't even ended yet.

I will be making Platinum Pro this year for the first time, could have easily hit Exec Platinum if the NZ error fare had been on a OW carrier. I missed out on Cathay while trying to figure out positioning flights.

Re: AA Vacations MCC coded as Airlines

To update this thread for future reference.

Charge posted as
American Airlines Fort Worth
$4118.xx
Travel - Airlines
Includes my ticket number

Amex confirmed that I would earn 5X points since the charge billed as an airline and there was no mention of a vacation package anywhere.

I purchase LAX - NRT Flights + Hotel package.
Booked the flights for 9 days.
Throw- away hotel for 3 nights as it saved me $425 on each ticket.
Flights booked under I* which is an AA special fare.

Wait you are flying to New Zealand on American Airlines and you don't have any American Airline cards? That is only an 80k miles flight.

No, I am not flying to NZ on American.

NZ ( Air New Zealand) had an error fare for RT ORD-AKL-SYD for $1399 in J. NZ is part of star alliance.

I wish the NZ error fare had been on a One World carrier as it would have helped me hit AA EXP.

on AA Flights this year I will earn 82,000 EQM and $12,100 EQD which is enough for Platinum Pro, but had that NZ fare been OW I would have hit the 100K / 15K requirment

AA special fares really help you to build up some serious EQM/EQD.

None of the AA credit cards really appeal to me. Maybe the Citi AA Exec for Admirals Club access but all the airports I will fly through in the US this year all have Centurion Lounges or OW lounges which I will have access to come March when I hit AA Platinum.

Re: AA Vacations MCC ?

My point is AA partners fly to Australia and New Zealand and you could fly for 80k roundtrip from anywhere in US. As there are 4 AA cards you get so you could get 3 Roundtrip tickets to New Zealand with cards.
