Hi guys - I was approved for the AMEX BCE last week and expect to receive the card any day now! I'm currently an AU on my wife's AMEX Blue and wondering if I should be removed from her card.
I'd like to know ...
1. What are the pros and cons of being removed as the AU on her card? It's not my oldest TL, I have other revolving CCs, and solid AAoA.
2. How do I go about getting removed? Can I call AMEX myself or does she have to
3. If removed as an AU, does the TL get completely removed from all three of my CRs?
Thank you!
What is the utilization like on her card ? Also are there any late pays or anything derogatory ?

So, basically, your wife carries a high balance on a card is that is not as old as your oldest TL's.
First and foremost, look at your average account age. Is your wife's card older or younger than that average? If it's lower, then it's obviously a net negative no matter what else is going on. Of course, if you want to be super precise, you can calculate what your new average account age will be once your new card hits your reports and figure that as well. Beyond that, how high is her average utilization? usually around 20%? 30%? more? How much total credit do you have without your wife's card? What is your own utlilization without her card? Do you really need hers to keep yours in line? Or do you carry almost nothing making utlilization boosts from extra credit lines immaterial?
Thanks for the response guys – y’all really helped me look at this from the right perspective. It will likely be a positive gain to remove me as an AU from her account.
Do you know if I should call Amex and request removal, or does she have to?
Also, after Amex removes me as an AU, will my wife’s account be completely removed from my CRs as if it never was there in the first place? Or will the TL continue reporting with notes stating Account/Relationship Terminated?
your wife does that. it's her account. and then it's gone....like it was never there.
