AMEX Backdating question

Received first AMEX card at 21 years old in 1999.  Was irresponsible and didnt realize the entire balance was due the next month.  Didnt pay and was charged off.  Made payment full to AMEX a year or two later.   Mother opens up business account in 2006 and adds me as an authorized user.  Still have  card with my name on it but the account is under her name.

If I apply for an AMEX card now, will I be able to backdate it to 1999?  Or at least, 2006?   I finally have my credit repaired/fixed and the only thing keeping my scores down is the AAoA.

Any suggestions would be great.    Chet

Re: AMEX Backdating question

American Express no longer backdates to the credit bureaus. If you call them to backdate, they'll simply change your member since date but it will not show on your credit bureaus.

Unfortunately, you missed the boat departure on March 21, 2015 (or somewhere around that time).

Re: AMEX Backdating question

Most likely it will show a member since date of 1999 on your physical card and on the website when you login. Unfortunately, as other people have mentioned, the backdating won't translate to the CRAs.

Re: AMEX Backdating question

BoA doesn't either which I think is different. After a 5 year absence with them, I registered my Cash Rewards card online. The computer brought up my old user id and just prompted for a new password. Although my address was updated, my online acct still showed showed my CU checking info on Bill Pay.  That in itself seems to be proof enough!  Dang!  Smiley Happy
