They ED version that earns MR is suppose to get a make-over as well
It needs one--BADLY. ED is the lowest APR of all my AMEX revolvers (15.24%)--it would be nice if I could start using it again. They should make it 2% on everything just like Blue Biz Plus.
I agree. Both the EveryDay and the EveryDay Preferred make no sense for someone who already has the Amex Gold:
The only thing that the ED credit card family have going for them is that they are credit cards, not charge cards. However, you should never be keeping a balance on a credit card, ever, if you are playing the points and miles game.

- Better earnings
- Effective annual fee between $30 and $120 depending if you maximize the credits
- Significantly higher SUB
- Flex value

Prior to the bonus categories changing on the SPG Business (now Bonvoy Business) my EDP was a true work horse. It turned my grocery spending to 4.5x and my fuel purchases to 3x (my major categories). It kinda sucked in the way of dining but at the time it didn't bother me as much as there wasn't another MR earning card that offered much higher than the 1.5x I was getting anyway. I never had a problem hitting the 30 swipes needed per month as I used the card at the vending at work at least once a day and sometimes more. Since all I ever used my MR points for was transferring to Marriott the EDP was a true winner for me.
With the bonus categories of 4 marriott points on dining, fuel, etc I kinda switched from the EDP to just using this card. I was planning to give up the Amex Gold and just continue to use the EDP for grocery and still hit the swiped needed by my daily vending purchases but I realized that our vending machines at the hospital code as fast food for some strange reason so it only made sense to use the Bonvoy Business card on those as well. So for me, the Bonvoy Business kinda put my EDP to rest...not the Amex Gold.

Since I was on the phone anyhow, I asked her if there were any changes coming to the rewards structure on this card, and she said that in 2-3 months a new category is going to be added. I asked her if she could tell me what it is, and she wouldn't. The only thing she would say was that it is a positive change, there is no planned increase in annual fee, and that we would be notified in an upcoming statement. She would not comment on whether the change would also apply to BCE, but I imagine it would, to a lesser extent.
I have fought consistently for a 3% dining category, and I hope it is that.
I guess that we will have to wait and see, but something is coming !!
WINTER?❄

3% dining? Bleh, gold card's 4x MR will stay as my dining choice.
Come'on, AMEX, give us a fun category that isn't already in all of our wallets!
Free CLD of your choice!😁

My guess is it will be a 3 percent category to replace the fact that they removed department stores.
Did not know that they removed department stores. Is that just for new cardholders?
I got 3% on a January 25, 2019 purchase at Dillards. Made some more purchases at Dillards on my current statement. Now I am curious to see if I still get the 3%...

Yes, I believe they removed it for new apps only.

I kind of agree here. However, the ED is nice for a BT card while Gold has to be PIF. I do feel that too many of their cards have Dining as a category. Be nice to get some variety mixed in, though they probably feel that you shouldn't have redundant cards anyways.

Dining seems to be all the rage for bonus categories lately. Banks are competing for consumer spend on that area. It's nice, but yes, at this point it's getting redundant.
My guess is Amex figures that most cardholders are only going to have/use 1 or 2 of their cards so redundancy isn't an issue.
As far as the ED, it is meant to cater to the consumer who wants one card to use for everyday (lol) purchases, therefore reaching the 20% bonus. For anyone reward savvy it's certainly nothing special, but the card wasn't designed with maximizers in mind. However, I'd love to see them update it, just not sure what they could really do unless they're going to drop the Everyday/certain number of transactions theme.

When you say they removed dept store, do you mean the they took away the 3% for all dept stores or they just took some off the eligibility list?
