People on here get excited very easily, but it is a good thing we're migrating in the US... card fraud has got ridiculous. I still wish we were implementing chip + offline PIN priority for best acceptance worldwide.

I don't think this was advertise on AMEX website because I was totally unaware of it, and all of the pictures I saw of this card were chip free. Nice touch AMEX, I feel like this is a little extra suprise today...along with retrieving my Capital 1 QS.
They'll all have the chip. Look to see if it has the wave symbol behind the chip (looks like sideways Wi-Fi), if not, call them up in a few days (10 days from approval before they can issue a replacement card), and ask them for "chip and signature with contactless" - then you'll get a card you can just tap on readers where available.
No wave behind mine, looks like Ill contact them in about two weeks. Thanks for the advice!!

lg8302ch - 10 years ago I was not paying attention to credit card chip technology being released in europe or in any other part of the world. I was merely trying to graduate with honors lol. Heck I didn't have any credit 10 yrs ago, my first credit card came in 2006.
nyancat - more of the unexpected kind...AMEX does show a chip with this card on their website, but they do show a chip with the EveryDay card. So I was caught off guard a little when my card arrived with a chip. I was under the impression that it was chipless.
cool nonetheless

No problem, hopefully you can get one first try. I did, but others have needed several attempts to get one with contactless...

+1 ..but chip is not the only key to prevent fraud. In Europe you have to make sure you cover pin entry from all sides because they install cameras to pick your pin and then go for the card once they have the pin. So you need extra caution at payment terminals!

Correct, but they still must physically steal the card. Fraud is prevented a lot of ways, and no one would use nearly-perfect systems - they'd be too much of a pain.
Congrats on your bcp. When I got mine I expected the chip, but I didn't know the card was going to be clear- transparent. I hadn't read about it, so it was a surprise. Same with the everyday card lol.

And my case was the opposite of yours lol. I read about the card being transparent but knew nothing of the chip lol

I remember one of the amex card like 8-10 years ago which had a chip, never really took off, and I think it was old blue card. anyways, u.s never really converted to chip technology because it would cost credit card companies a lot of money, I probably wouldn't have known about this until now if I never moved to DK 6 years ago.
I believe Amex is migrating these as they choose. I recently got a email that our corporate cards will be replaced with new chip/pin and I work for a company with roughly 200,000 employees...that's a lot of cards to replace willingly.
Cheers!
