Hello all. I currently have an AMEX SPG card that I want to get rid of and replace with an AMEX Hilton card. I've seen conflicting info on this board to my 1st question (below), and hope you all can provide me with the most up to date info.
1. Can you currently product change an SPG AMEX to a Hilton AMEX? (I saw some posts say yes, then others say not anymore)
Also...
2. When doing any product change with AMEX, does the card have to have a 0 balance, or will they allow you to product change with a balance, and carry that balance over to the new card?
Thanks, in advance for any and all assistance!
1. No and you never could as far as I know.
2. It can have a balance you don't need to zero it out before doing a PC.
Just as an added note the only card you can PC your current SPG card assuming it's the "original" is to the Luxury version and that's it.
No is the simple answer. You would have to close the card. You could just open another one with them? Only time you can change is if you get the AMEX Branded cards.
@simplynoir wrote:1. No and you never could as far as I know. Official rules forbade PCs between card families, but some CSRs ignored official policy and allowed a variety of PCs in practice. Amex started enforcing the rule more strictly around 2016 or 2017, I don't recall exactly when.

Thanks for quick responses. Oh, well, so it looks like I'll keep the SPG AMEX for the time being, while I pay off the balance, and apply for an Hilton AMEX. Then close the SPG before the AF hits next year. Once Marriott, took over, the program sucks.
