I understand it's marketing, but I just got a mailer from AMEX offering 100K MR point SUB for spending $6K in 6 months. I think is might be better that the public offer (based at least what is on CharlesSchwab.com which is 80K MR points for $8K of spend in 6 months) .
I double check AMEX.com and the same offer is available on my log in as well. The last time I checked for the AMEX Platinum I was in pop-up Jail. Now I'm have no intentions to apply as I have no plans to travel this year via air and 5x on flights/hotels is not a usefully category for me at the time. However the only option is to "Upgrade" instead of "Apply."
I know AMEX did a big shake up with their line of CC last year, but are you no longer able to hold the Gold and Platinum at the same time? I heard how they wouldn't offer a SUB if you have the Platinum first unlocked the SUB and then you applied for the Gold later on, AMEX will denied to offer a SUB for the gold.

Not sure but you can certainly have a green and gold card at the same time, and they will fight to stop you from closing either.
@citymunkyYou can have gold and platinum at the same time (you can have any combination of green, gold and platinum or all 3). What they changed were the rules on subs. They've added family language to many charge and credit cards. If you've had a plat you will no longer be eligible to get a sub on gold or green. If you've had gold you will no longer be eligible to get a sub on green. Looks like they are discouraging people from starting with plat and still getting subs and thus making it harder to churn Amex subs. They've added similar language to BCP, BCE, and Cash Magnet. Occasionally there will be targeted offers that don't have the lifetime language, and upgrade offers like yours are not subject to that language IIRC. I have no use for getting the plat card, but I do like to check the offers I've not had anything elevated on it. It's always just the std 80k MR offer. For an upgrade offer 100k MR seems pretty good (usually they aren't as good as the new app offer), if the card actually makes sense for you.

Also you cant upgrade the gold to the Charles Schwab Platinum as its not in the same family. Same reason you cant downgrade the Schwab Platinum to anything.
I've had the Gold for 1yr and Amex offered me the same deal 100k with $6k spend in 8 months, I was in popup jail last time I appllied for the platinum card back in Jan 2024 but haven't again, Sense I got this offer does this means i'm out of pop up jail and should I just apply for that 175k offer? but the thing is if I upgrade I will lose the gold and I still want to have my gold card, I wish there's a way I can upgrade and still keep my gold card

Me too, but I think that is becasue I'm not spending as much on one of my BIZ cards as I thought I was going too.
I thought about taking the offer and apply for a new Gold card, but I need to watch how fast I'm applying for new accounts as I'm at 5/24 until Dec24, as as my avg age of accounts is sub 5 years with possible plans to buy a house this summer when I move.
If this offer comes up again next year, I will take the bait.

An upgrade is indeed a replacement, so if you upgrade Gold to Plat, you end with a Plat and without a Gold. So the "obvious" workarounds:
1) Take the upgrade and then apply for a new Gold card at some point. Depending on the new rules though, this may stop you getting a SUB for the new Gold.
2) Don't upgrade but apply for the Plat (assuming you really want it)
With two cards you will have two sets of AF.
Don't forget if you add a Charles Schwab platinum to your portfolio, you can transfer the MR points into cash on your brokerage account. If you simply upgrade the Gold card, you can't. My understanding is if you have one Chales Schwab card, you can cash all the miles you earn from combined MR cards into your brokerage account. If you don't have the Schwab Platinum then you can only use for standard MR rewards.
For about a year, I have been getting notices from AMEX asking me to upgrade from the Gold to Platinum. The Platinum does not fit in with what I am looking for in a card, plus I don't like the $695 (or is it $595) annual fee.
I did get an email recently asking me if I want to add the Platinum card to go with my Gold.
