AMEX Green-Upgrade or PC to Platinum or Gold

Hello everyone, need some help.

So about 8 years ago ( just found out a month or so ago)  that AMEX GOLD card has written off $2000, i offered to pay it back but they said it wont do no good.

Fast forward.....

When i applied for a any AMEX card it says "declined due to AMEX closed one of yoru accounts" -- Here is where it gets confusing

I applied for a GREEN CARD back in March of this year, and i got approved !!

6 months later my "spending limit" or "spending power" went up from $1200 to $5250, I avg about $4-$5K a month and i pay them before it is due, and AMEX CSR New Credit Team who i speak to once a month LOVES me and compliments me on how the payments history is just incredible.

so now with that being said ......

April of 2017 will be 13 months. ...So will I get a Product Change or Upgrade offer for a Gold or Platinum card ? if so ?

What is the difference between PRODUCT CHANGE and UPGRADE ?

Is it a Hard Pull ? or Soft Pull or NO Pull ?

Do they base it off payment history and spending habits ?

OR

Am i stuck with the Green Card for the rest of my life ?

Thank You all for you support !!

Current scores on all three bureaus are high 500 or Low 600

Re: AMEX Green-Upgrade or PC to Platinum or Gold

Hello Viperltdmyfico,

While I cannot tell you if you'll receive an upgrade offer based on your current credit scores and/or prior relationship with American Express, I can clarify for you that there is no difference between a "product change" and an "upgrade" as that upgrade is the product change. The term "upgrade" is typically just used to reference a higher level within that product's portfolio. As such, there are no credit inquiries for a product change since it is really just a matter of you changing the card benefits and/or rewards, and of course paying the corresponding annual membership fee.

One thing I will caution though is that sometimes, you may be offered an "upgrade" in the form of a cross-sale (in which a new account is applied for and created) - this can result in a credit inquiry and the submission of the application authorises American Express to obtain one if necessary. This is usually done if the account is not eligible for a product change (e.g. less than 13 months old), there is a better welcome offer (typically a higher bonus) that the card member prefers as opposed to an upgrade offer, etc. The representative in this case needs to read you a long disclosure mentioning the credit inquiry and make it clear this is for a new account. If you ever second-guess what the representative is saying or doing, please ask to speak with a supervisor.

I hope this helps!

Re: AMEX Green-Upgrade or PC to Platinum or Gold

Thank you for your responses !!

I did find out the hard way that I cannot upgrade to another card prior to 13 months,...I applied for a Platinum card thinking it would upgrade but it didn't and denied.

Ok so I guess there is a possibility as long as i keep up the good payment history.

WIll see how it is next year !!
