Thank you all for your help. So little twist....

i was at my chase branch making a deposit. Happened to ask a banker if I was pre approved for anything. I was preapproved for quite a few. One was the sapphire preferred. I took it and received a Very generous limit and I'm pretty excited about it.

id still like an amex but not too sure on the to go. Maybe it makes sense to do a charge card now than before I got the sapphire preferred?

If anything, I would say an Amex charge card would be less desirable now that you have the CSP. To my understanding, charge cards work best when you use them as your primary card/put a good amount of money on them. That way you have an easier time making up the annual fee.

CSP usually has a fairly high spend requirement for sign-up bonuses, so it might hamper your charge card spending. Unless you will have a lot big expenses coming up, I can't see the CSP + charge card combo being the best option, at least initially. Again, depending on your spending patterns, Amex has plenty of cards that have no annual fee which will also earn you rewards and allow you to carry a balance, if you so choose.

First....CONGRATS on the CSP!  It's a wonderful card, great bennies.  Did you get the offer for the 40K points for $3K spend in 3 months?  If so,you'll find that it's pretty easy to get to that $3K spend, if you put everything through that card for the next 3 months.  What was your initial CL?  Presuming at least $5K?

Regarding AMEX, as others have stated, looks like you could probably get most any of their products with your score.  Guess it really depends on what your needs are.  And you could certainly consider doing multiple apps with AMEX, a charger and a revolver.  When I did my Clear and ZYNC, it was the same day and the same HP for the approvals on both.

Presumably, Chase pulled EX for the CSP?  They usually pull EX.  And AMEX almost always pulls EX as well, so this will likely impact your decision and results.

If you just want an AMEX to get "in" with AMEX, check their website and compare their benefits and features.  You may find that a Clear or Blue might fit the bill, or if you're going  to travel some, one of the travel cards might work for you.  The Delta Gold  anecdotally is one of the easier cards to get since it's co-branded and has a bit more relaxed requirements.
