How many decades ago was it invite only?

I don't know that the Platinum card was ever invite only, but it did used to be much harder to get.

Now the requirements to qualify for a Blue Cash Everyday card are a higher bar than a Platinum card, not counting the AF.

It was @markbeiser, and as @Revelate mentioned upthread, it was several decades ago. Specifically, mid to late 80s. Back then the AF was $250.

Yeah, I remember when you had to have a really great credit history, and above average income, to even get the Green card.
