AMEX Platinum Skymiles to a AMEX Optima Platinum

When I got the Skymiles car a few years ago I was told that switching to another AMEX is possible a s long as it's not a charge card. Well thats not the deal. I tried to switch my Skymiles to an Optima platinum yesterday and it's a no go. You can only switch to othe skymiles cards, the blue cards, and the hilton card.

Maybe because the Optima Platinum isn't available now for new applicants.  You could try calling back and asking a different CSR or two.  The Blue is basically the same, feature-wise, if not appearance-wise (it notably lacks a Member Since date).
