Not sure if this is well known...as it wasn't to me so I figured I would share.
I have an AX Plat that I've had for a really long time and it get used minimally. I've also read the rumor that they'll be revamping the card, increasing the AF to $895 and changing some of the credits similar to Chase and the Sapphire Reserve. To me, this means more useless credits and a higher AF. Granted I already hold a Business Delta Reserve AMEX so my lounge access is provided for both Delta and AMEX Centurion Lounges so that's not a concern.
I called and asked if I could PC the Plat to a personal Delta Reserve, knowing the Plat was a Charge Card and the Delta Reserver is a revolver. However, I was told that AMEX doesn't allow cross product changes...meaning, I could only PC the Plat to a Gold or a Green...I can't move that to another product. Okay...I then asked about my personal Blue Cash Preferred....a personal revolver that I figured I would use to convert to Delta if they said no on the Plat....well, they said no to that too. The BCP can only be PC'd to the Blue Cash Everyday.
The ony PC's allowed for Delta, or Marriott or any of their cards must be within that family of products...in other words, another Delta card to another Delta card upgrade or downgrade. They don't allow the cards to comingle and the rep instructed me to just apply for another card.
That's correct. Lending cards (revolvers) cannot be product changed to charge cards, or vice versa. Business and Personal cards are not interchangeable. Product changes must remain within the same rewards program family.
if you end up choosing to downgrade to a green or a gold, you can typically get an upgrade offer to be paid to upgrade back up to gold or plat

You could always open the Delta Reserve Personal and them move your credit line from your BCP to the Personal Reserve.
I recently opened my Platinum, January of this year. Now I'm dreading hearing the AF is going up. I hope it's something worthwhile. I would hate to have to cancel this card after 1 year.
