Why is it that people are fully aware of how amex operates in regard to new accts , fr's and etc yet they apply for amex card(s) anyway then turn around and worry about would amex may or may not do? I just dont understand how one could beaware of amex then go and apply for cc's and or make certain purchases then be like " Oh Amex".
In my opinion people who worry about FR by AMEX, have something to hide and haven't been truthful. With that said AMEX does act differently from the other prime companies so some people might find what they do as confusing, worrisome. AMEX is my favorite company BTW.
The same reason AMEX sells to customers "prestige"

This probably explains it best.

Happens not just here, and not just with AMEX. Truth be told, out of the millions of AMEX customers worldwide, the chances of an FR are miniscule. Boards such as this and others, represent only a very small percentage of those customers as well. Urban Legend status also becomes a factor.
I realize that. I just cant see myself worrying/thinking about all the negative aspects of a card/company before I apply for it then worry about it even more after I apply and is approved for it. Life is way more important for me.
From my perspective, for people who use the card as intended and don't apply for every single Amex card, there is no risk of being FR'ed.
Even for the minor risk of FR, an Amex is still worth it for the following:
1. Backdating - By far the most unique beneft offered by any issuer.
2. For the SPG - Best return on spending when used properly.
3. Long time members receive a level of customer service (exceptions) they would otherwise not realize with another issuer.
4. No issuer takes the side of the cardmember the way Amex does during disputes.
5. Charge card has unmatched purchasing power.
6. Considerable prestige abroad often resulting in hotel upgrades and superior service.
Those are some of the reasons why an Amex is worth the very remote and minor risk of an FR, in my view.

AMEN TO THAT ! ! !
The percentage of folks who worry about a FR is very small, yet very vocal, thus misleading folks such as yourself about the amount of actual card carriers who actually worry about it.

Hey blondy250!
Sorry, but I don't agree with this at all. I am sure that in more then half the cases this is true, but I was FR'd and have nothing to hide. I was a prior Amex holder and handled it poorly when I was very young. After rebuilding, I had nothing but really starter cards and a CU card with a good limit. I got the FR after using the card once at check out. I don't disagree with Amex's policy of FRing people to ensure they can meet their obligations, but I think... like with with most lenders, it should be done at app not after issue of the card. ( or after an individual does something out of the norm... for example apping a lot of cards or running up balances) My only gripe. I whole heartedly agree with the poster. Why if Amex was the goal card... would you do anything to risk losing it. I'm not talking about using it as intended, but actually doing the crazy stuff I've seen on this forum like apping a ton of cards or running up balances or constantly hitting the "check your spending" button on the Amex site over and over again. Not good practice of being responsible for sure.
Oh to be sure it's not ALL people.
