Jeez no one here has a sense of humor anymore.

You're absolutely right!
I've always felt one of the best things about America is that we live in a country where it's perfectly acceptable to be unpopular, arrogant, fat or thin, rich or poor, and whatever else we prefer.
It's fine you feel as if you deserve to be as you are, but you need to realize everyone else you deal with will be acting from the same premise. Namely, because this is America, they or anyone else can shred your letter, not read it, and flat out exercise a T&C and just refuse to do business or have anything else to do with you until time immemorial. If you want to alienate a company that may be important to you (for whatever reason), you certainly have every right to.
Small example for you. Life is funny and ironic, especially if you have a long one. Two years ago, a person interviewed for a position in our firm. It was a small matter to this person, but 10 years ago he was rude and arrogant to me, for whatever reason. I remembered, because I thought it was uncalled for and unprofessional. Fast forward to two years ago when my partners wanted to hire him. I immediately vetoed the hire, and sent him on his way for being "arrogant and cocky" with me 10 years ago.
People and companies have long memories, and log your "less than kind" acts in their mental notes, or in Amex's case, their database.
PS - Joking or otherwise, views experessed here are just opinions, and you should make your own choice. If life is better for you being "cocky and arrogant," then you should be that exactly! It's worked for many.
Just wait for the respnse on the letter you send and lets see what amex will say
Hey who knows you could even get approved
Hello,
I had a similar situation late last month. Already had the Amex BC card (since 03'). Applied for the Delta Gold and was denied. I called the new accounts department and got a standard reading of the items on the letter I got in the mail. I was told to let them know if anything changes on my CR and they could recon. I ended up sending a secured message from my BC account and had great luck getting it reconned. Within a day the status went from Denied to Under Review. Three days later the card was approved, alebeit for only $2K but beggars can't be choosers :-) I'm not sure if you have an existing account with Amex but if you do that might be your "in." Good luck!

Of course, you want to be respectful in these types of situations! I thought everyone was seeming mean with no positive criticism. It is also worth noting that many banks are Customer Satisfaction centered, and many times they need to be hassled to get what needs to get done, DONE! Lol Think about this: being super sweet and a pushover in a business deal won't get you the best deal. I am not advocating a surly attitude, however.
It would be different if a3quit4s was charged a fee for no reason, or if they were billing for charges that were not made. Getting approved for a card is not something that needs to be done or something that warrants hassiling. If someone came to you or a3quit4s and said, "Navigatethis12 gave me 15000 and he only caters to rich people, so you have to give me money too. It doesn't matter that you declined me by your standards because they are wrong and should be updated to my needs. Give me money now or I will keep asking until you relent and hand it over.", wouldn't you laugh in their face or just ignore them?
It is the lender's money and they can give it to whomever they want, or don't want.

Here's my recon letter with Amex. Short and sweet and i was successful
To whom it may concern,
I want to thank you for taking the time to manually review my application. I understand Amex only takes the most qualified customers, though I am hoping you will look at my 100% on time payment history, the fact that I pay all of my revolving accounts in full every month, a fico score of 719 at the moment and reconsider me for your card. Enclosed is a copy of my experian credit report which you asked me to fax along. Again, thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Xxxxxx
See this is why I posted my letter. I don't mind the criticism; but at least help people out who will research this in the future
Update?
This thread gave me whiplash. I am curious to see what works and what doesn't, so that I know how to proceed. I cannot offer any assistance as I have had no experience with Amex Recon-ing or Amex, for that matter. So far I've learned that 1 page long will always reign supreme; the attention span of people happens to rest upon a few small sentences to create the summary for any decision making.
I'm here to learn. (glasses on).
Starting Score: EX 651/EQ 654/TU 668+1 I too would like to know what became of the letter!
