AMEX Rules: PCs and CL consolidations

For all my AMEX experts out there, I need a little info please!  I understand AMEX only allows PC and/or CL combo's from within the same card "family", correct?

If so, define the families for me and discuss both PC and CL movement.

For example, are all the hotel cards (Marriott and Hilton) in the same group by themselves?  And the cash back cards by themselves?  And the charge cards Platinum-Gold-Green by themselves (For PC up and down)?  And are the Delta cards in their own group?   Can Delta-Hilton-Marriott limits ever be moved to Everyday-EDP-Cash Magnet- Blue Cash-Blue Cash Preferred?  Can you PC a Marriott card to Hilton or vise versa?  And I'm assuming that Business card limits are only for business cards, since that is the way Chase also does it.  Can Business cards be product-changed between other business cards and if so, which ones?

Re: AMEX Rules: PCs and CL consolidations

You can move limits regardless of rewards family, so Delta can move limit to Blue Cash, etc.

You can move limits from personal to business, but not business to personal

You can only PC within the rewards family, so Hilton Surpass to Aspire, or Blue Cash Everyday to Blue Cash Preferred, etc.

You can PC business cards just like personal, only within the same rewards family/type. Charge cards can PC to other charge cards. Then you also have the Delta lineup. There's only one business HH and Marriott so those can't change.

You can move limits to any card with the exception of biz to personal. PC needs to stay in the same brand or family. You can't pc a cash card to MR or vice versa. You can't pc a Bonvoy to hilton since they are different brands and rewards.

Re: AMEX Rules: PCs and CL consolidations

CL reallocation:

Personal to business: good, as others have said

personal to personal: same

Business to personal: no

Business to business: supposedly okay, so I've heard

A card cannot be PCed from personal to business or vice versa

Regular Platinum charge card: PC is possible

Schwab (and other) Platinum charge card: PC is not possible

Cash Magnet is in the BCE/BCP family.

ED/EDP are a family. I've heard a few reports of Amex offering PCs from Blue (an old personal MR-earning revolver) to ED. But not lately.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

Re: AMEX Rules: PCs and CL consolidations

Thanks @Anonymous  and @Brian_Earl_Spilner, that helps.

Sounds like moving limits is (almost) unrestricted but product change is complicated.  Just no business to personal limits.

Let me restate and correct me if I'm wrong.

So Platinum-Gold-Green cards can only be pc'd between those, never exchanged for any other MR card. Charge cards for charge cards.

Delta cards only for any other Delta cards. (Up or down)

Hilton Cards only for any other Hilton cards. (Up or down)

Sounds like Marriott cards basically can't be Pc'd since no other products in class and personal/business category.

Everyday and Everyday Preferred only between those two cards. (MR points)

Blue Cash and Blue Cash Preferred (Ca$h cards) only between those two cards. Or is Cash Magnet interchangeable with these since it is cash?

Now what about cobrand cards like Schwab or others? Can you PC an existing plain Vanilla Amex card to the same variety, like a Platinum to Schwab Platinum (assuming you become a Schwab client later)?

I'm just trying to get a better general understanding but don't have specific plans right now.  Thanks!

Thanks @wasCB14.  You clarified some of my questions and posts before my posting above could hit the forums!

Re: AMEX Rules: PCs and CL consolidations

Bonvoy does have a downgrade/upgrade path with the card the SPG became. You just can't app for it. Can't remember what it's called.

I have it. I just asked to PC my Bonvoy Brilliant to "the $95 card".

In my sig I call it the "old" SPG95.

The card name on my Amex dashboard in "Bonvoy Amex Card". No mention of "Business" or "Brilliant".

The Cash Magnet is interchangeable with the Blue Cash Everyday and Blue Cash Preferred.   There is also the Blue Cash (aka OBC) which is no longer available, that from time to time Amex "invites" me to upgrade  (there have been rumors for quite some time of a forced conversion, but that hasn't happened yet).   Don't think you can PC to it (unlike Chaae with discontinued cards)
