Re: AMEX cancelled by AMEX?

Not to keep stirring the pot, but...

AmEx does not make the rules completely clear. Yes, there are the terms and conditions, but the ones I've seen on the website don't say things like pay off anything that you revolve within 3 cycles; don't app for a bunch of other cards at the same time; don't go over some mysterious unannounced percentage of the credit limit, and so forth.

Here on the forums, we're all obsessively reading this stuff over and over and arguing away, and we still can't say exactly what the parameters are. What about all the people out there who got an offer in the mail for a card that says that they have the option to carry a balance? How are they supposed to know that this is sort of true, but not the way that other credit cards allow you to carry a balance?

I don't have a problem with PIF'ing within 3 months or paying way over the minimum or even vomiting forth all my financial info on demand. But I do think it's a bit much to not make these things clear from the get-go.

BTW, if the T&C's do clarify all this, then never mind, as Emily Litella would say. But I haven't seen it on the online versions. I'm still just a fascinated onlooker when it comes to American Express. Smiley Surprised

Lightbulb Idea Wish I had thought of saying it like that.

Re: AMEX cancelled by AMEX?

People go for the cards for status. My AMEX customers think they are big *bleep* when they pull out their card. AMEX knows this and they can do what they want. That is an example of how most people want their businesses to be. I look at Apple, they are charging crazy fees for everything in Apple stores but people still want them. That status is hard to achieve for a business, but when they do it seems like the business does not care because they stand behind their product. On the up side to AMEX, they are (well were) very generous with the CLI's until some started to take advantage and then they cut the card. The difference between new AMEX'ers and old is that the ones with the old cards are pushing luv buttons everytime you look up. To AMEX this is a flag. I have seen some posters that said they lied about how much they make, on app's, and AMEX is fully aware of that.

Apple just got to the point where they are decreasing the prices on those iphones (it's not by much either) and it was because of complaints. On the other hand, Apple has a sale once a year they could care less if you think they should or should not have more sales. Apple is yet another company with excellent financial statments and their stock is thru the roof. Their products are still the most expensive but they are by far the best sellers.

Hauling
Just yesterday I saw a poster say that they do frown upon carrying a balance. I will try to find my T&c's and clarify that.

Hauling CCC change the rules all the time and a lot of the T&C's make it clear that they have the right to do just that. Yet another reason they are trying to get us to not depend on them.

Re: AMEX cancelled by AMEX?

Yes the LUV button addiction nd the apporama has definitely set issuers off.  Even Penfed does not like debt pyramiders.  Mabe they are seeing something behind the scenes that shows some of these people di not know how to manage the newfound access to credit.  that are all the mdeia interviews about how consumers were getting smart about their money set them off.

Yes Amex does not like min payments and will raise your payment if you make mins for too long.  However, most who xfr to a 0% rate are trying to not only decrease the amount of money they pay for borrowing but earna little nterest on their money as well.  Guess the bansk don't like tht anymore.

Re: AMEX cancelled by AMEX?

I'm sure that you're right. One of my challenges is that I use Firefox at home, and the compare card function on the AmEx website goes into endlessly rotating hell if you try to access it with Firefox.

So I sneak peaks at the cards at work (where I have to use IE), and I'm always having to flip someone's electronic medical record over the Blue Sky site or whatever to hide my non-work-related activity! Smiley Very Happy

Re: AMEX cancelled by AMEX?

Nope Brammy banks don't like that. They want to make money bottom line, at the end of the day that is all they care about. They give back by way of social responsibility and that is it.

Of course they can, it's their card, and they can do whatever they like.

But it doesn't make good business sense to "try to get us to not depend on them." The whole name of the game is to develop fanatical loyalty in customers, not have them regard your product warily as if it were a non-rehabilitated pit bull. Apple is the perfect example. I put up with endless amounts of crap from Wintel people for years, because I loved my Macs. Only when a lightning surge through the cable cooked the connectivity did I finally sell my soul to Bill Gates and buy the Toshiba laptop. And I would have bought a PowerBook if I could have afforded one.

Once again, if I know EXACTLY what a CCC card wants out of me, I can decide whether to play or not. And I'm pretty good-natured (most of the time), so I will probably play. But I work 2 jobs, 70 hours a week, and I have massive ADHD, and I can't even keep straight the various AmEx rewards programs. So the last thing I want to do is read between the lines.
