I have had my BCP for some time now. Few years or so. Today I decided to apply for the Hilton Aspire. Got approved. Happy, thought all was well. Then I noticed that my BCP CL was dropped from 22K down to 12K. After being approved for 15K on the Hilton card. Has anyone else experienced this? To be honest I'm a little bummed about getting dropped 10K off my limit. Thoughts?

Yep, there have been other reports of this exact scenario the last few years.
If you don't like how they reallocated the credit lines you can either call them or go online and move the limits around yourself.
I guess they have an algorithm for each persons profile as to what they feel a members TCL should be and adjust as they see fit. My TCL with them went up 5K, I just feel like I lost utilization on my other card, practically 50%...

Yeah, if I recall correctly the chatter in the other thread(s) leaned toward thinking that Amex is assuming you're going to (possibly) be using a new card more than the existing one, so they move some additional credit over to the new card to provide "cushion."
I have no idea if this is actually their thinking, but it does sound reasonable.
I have heard many others share a similar experience. That made me a little hesitant to ask for a CLI when my Bonvoy was at 20k, my aspire 24k, and my BCP at 8k. I have never asked for a CLI with my BCP; had it about 14 months. My Bonvoy had an initial cl of 20k so after about 10 months I decided to go for it. They immediately said they wanted to see some bank statements and said it could take up to 10 days for an answer. After about 10 days I finally heard they had approved my cl for 40k. No other limits were changed. Im glad they asked for bank statements rather than dilute my credit limits. I also have a platinum card.
hard to see a pattern here

Did you have a large amount in the bank when they upped the limit? They are asking for a friend's bank statements. He gave it to them so he's waiting for the response. He keeps only around 2-3k in the bank so he's expecting his 15k line to maybe be cut. His credit and payment history is good though

Amex is probably interested in your friend's deposit transactions to see if they are in line with their stated income. Income verification, not asset verification.
@Openwater I am sorry to hear that. And you've been a good customer for several years. I imagine this kind of takes the fun out of getting approved for the new Hilton card.

Excellent work

It kind of did, but they increased my TCL 5K. I guess they have to keep it in line with whatever algorithms are associated with my profile. Gotta look at the glass as 1/2 full. 🤙
