Is a AMEX in process status a good or bad thing? I've never experienced this before. Its always been either an instant denial or approval...
Any feeling either way on this? ETA? Tips?
That's what mine showed too. I called the number right below that box, and then they came back on after verifying some information and approved me. Expedited the card, I should have it tomorrow! Good luck!
You should call them to accelerate the proccess. I recently applied for an AMEX and just like you got the In Progress notification, which surprised me as well. Upon calling them, the rep asked me the last 4 digits of my SSN and my DOB and I was approved right there and then. The In Progress notification often means that they need to verifiy certain pieces of information so I'd say it' snot a bad thing. Someone else can chime in though.

What kind of info did they ask? I want to be prepared. :-)
They asked me for my last 4 of social, date of birth, and prior address. We just closed on our first house, and I had an updated address on the application. I have a fraud statement on my reports due to an older fraudulent account, so they said it was necessary to verify that it was me, and my new address.
She came back on and welcomed me to the AMEX family. Very quick, painless. Good luck!

Agree 100%. I called immediately after my Zync app got In Progress, and it turned out all they needed was to verify my address and employer. Took all of 5 minutes to get to "Congratulations! You are approved"
So just calling the number below the pending status bar is the best number to call?
Yep, that's what number I called. They may ask for your reference number as well. if not, they can look you up by social.

By the way..., did you go through card match? And, any reason you didn't wait until Jan?
It owuldnt really matter by waiting until january since i already have a Green AMEX from 2011? wouldnt that be my oldest member date and this new card would be backdated to then?
Also, i dont really understand the reasoning for waiting until january...? I figured it out before, but have forgot lol. Seems counter intuitive to wait longer to get more history....
