My score has been steadily increasing and I think I'm a borderline applicant for an Amex Delta Gold now. I'm getting really itchy to apply again (declined twice) but I'm hesitant because currently my only CC is an Amex Oasis Optima (rebuilder) and they haven't yet reported my statement that closed on Nov 7.
The problem is my October statement looks like I had a zero balance because a return was processed on a purchase just before the statement close - so my score is negatively impacted because it looks like no activity.
I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and apply. Amex should no that I actually did have recent activity - and I'm even making weekly payments because my CL is only $500 and I want to keep my utilization low.
Does anyone have thoughts whether I should pull the trigger now or wait until it reports?
AAOA = 5.2 years
Oldest A = 10.7 year
A few baddies: 6+ year old CO, 6+ year old major late (student loan), and 3 year old CA ($170).
I'm guessing my EX score will be 680-690 when the november statement gets reported.
Perhaps someone could comment on whether Amex would use their own data for my credit card utilization (since my only card is with them).
I know they calculate their own score with the data they pull but it seems reasonable that they might use their own CC data for their customers since they would also have more detail.

I know "optima" as the old timey amex card, from when I was a teenager. I do realize that it's a "rebuilder/forgiveness" card now, but as what type (charge, or revolver)?
Amex does their own internal risk scoring, so your ficos are just a piece of their pie.
Which card/cards interest you, and someone will jump in.
Personally, I have green,zync, delta p.

I actually remember reading a post similar to this a few weeks ago. AMEX seemed to use the CR data, even though their internal data should have been different.
It was a post from a guy with an OPTIMA who closed that account in order to app for another that he had been pre-selected for and then was denied.
I think I read that post as well. I was told I don't need to cancel before applying so I won't get stuck in limbo if declined.
For some reason, I am resistant to getting a charge card but that would probably be the smarter move especitally since my meber since date is 2004. I was planning on applying for the Delta Gold.
I guess if anyone has on opinion whether I should app for a charge first - opinions are welcome. Thanks. I'm getting an extremely itchy trigger finger with the holidays coming and I don't know if I can wait much longer!
Does the sp with denial come into effect with your optima?
I'm happy to say yes. Denied twice for Delta Gold since July and both were soft pulls.
Are you applying through the delta link, or directly from Amex?
2nd: are you entering in a FFA number with the app?
I apped via the Delta web site and yes, with my Freq Flyer number. The 1st time it was actually during a purchase.
I know there is a better offer via the Delta web site but does it make a difference otherwise?
Only Amex, and Delta know for sure.
