Re: Advice on applying for credit cards

Because of the fees and the uselessness.  Those cards are for people who can't get any other card. You're past that stage in your rebuild.

I have closed out my Capital One Platinum Secured card and will work on closing my Credit One Platinum next. Thank you so much for the advice!

Re: Advice on applying for credit cards

I am not sure about the annual fee as I've been told to never get a cc with a fee.

FWIW, it simply comes down to what is important to you with the AF's. Personally, I had the basic Hilton Honors AmEx as I traveled a lot up until the last 6 months. I didn't want to lose my Diamond status at Hilton so I called AmEx to find out if I could upgrade from the basic card up to the top tier Aspire card.  No credit limit increase - I simply wanted that card because with Aspire you are locked in at Diamond status.  The lady on the phone told me it was no problem so now I have that card. The annual fee is $450 but that equates to 2-3 nights a year so, for me and my business lifestyle, it makes sense.
