I am rebuilding my credit and never really researched or seriously contemplated CCs and Apps....so no real ideas here...I am doing some search and it seems carnival sea miles is the easiest Juniper card? There are lotsa cards by juniper and im like clueless right now..
Also cant find any good information about National City. Is there a link? I read one post where it states that the bank is cleveland based but is doing pretty bad. What is their easiest card if they have more than one. National CITY is nowPNC...do my chances of approval change now?
How about Target VISA? fat chance?

Juniper - I do have Junny's Carnival SeaMiles CC and regret ever receiving it. They pulled TU about 18 months ago when it was around 640. They issued a $400 CL where it has been ever since. I've requested CLIs and was always told "No". The APR seemed a little high (around 20%) but recently received a ratejack peaking it above 29%. It was a great starter card but I hold it in the same regards as any subprime CC out there. I got that CC after the junami incident from a couple yrs ago where they issued CCs to about anyone who app'd and issued high CLs to boot. I think I hit the tail end of all of that. I'm gonna give them once last chance for a CLI when I get my util down to nothing.
BTW, DW has I-Tunes, but haven't asked for a CLI yet on her $500 CL.
Oh, and another thing, they turn most everyone down if you request a second CC.
NatCity - I've heard rumors that NatCity was troubled, but I never saw any evidence of that. AFAIK, they were issuing CCs up to the acquisition by PNC. And PNC is a strong bank. They are now opening up 2 new branches by where I live and already had others. Like NatCity, they are also a TU puller.
I have the Points Visa. Got that when TU was about 670. Started with $2000 and asked for a CLI after three months. I had requested $1000 extra and was denied. However, next statement they bumped it to $3000. They are a great card and I have never ever had any problems or issues....well, except one. They called the house over and over and over and over and over again. They never left a message and we are never at home. I finally called the number on the caller ID and they verified my info. Then they asked how things were going. I said "OK". Then they said that they were checking up to make sure I was satisfied. Weird. But I'd recommend them.
I appd online and initially typed my zip code. They said that the product wasn't available in my area. Seems like I typed something else and was allowed to app. I put in my correct info and got the CC OK.
Hi Hauling,
Thanks for the reply.

Barclays is a big TU puller, but they're even stranger than ever these days.
I'm assuming that TU is your best report, right?
Yep!
Do you happen to live in the Upper Midwest, by any chance? Most credit unions pull EQ, but it appears that TU still rules with CU's in the Upper Midwest.
I live in Alabama. Unfortunately its all EQ it seems. I checked with a couple of local CUs and they pull EQ. I did check with my local small bank and they pull TU. I know the manager there as well. He said they would need atleast 640 for Auto loans or CC apps.Thinking of trying it with them on monday.
What does your EQ report look like? At this point, with your collection of rebuilders, I don't see a whole lot of point in picking up yet another one. I would investigate local (not Alliant, PenFed, etc) credit unions and see if they might be willing to work with you. If you buy a new FICO EQ report and print it out, you can show it to the loan officer at the CU, and ask for an informal opinion as to whether they have anything they could offer you. Obviously, they'd still have to pull a hard inq if you wanted to try for real, but at least you might get an indication as to whether you're in their general range.
My EQ and EX still have this collection baddie which only fell off TU and of which I have absolutely no clue. Will wait to see if it will come back or will fall of the other two as well.
And on top of that theres another collection as well on EQ and EX.. A BOA checking a/c. So I was thinking no chance there.EQ is 610 but with 15% UTL. I did speak to one at Alabama Telco but she said I would be better off paying off collections and paid collections are a little ok but unpaid ones(unless its really really small) are a no.
In the meantime, what are the negatives on screen 2 of your FICO reports? The negatives are listed in descending order of how badly they affect your scores.
The following are the negs on my TU;
1) Serious delinquency. 60 days late or worse. - 1 A/C
2) Very short credit history - Oldest a/c 4 yrs 6 months and AAoA 1 year.
3) You have made heavy use of your available rev. utl. - 15%
4) The balance on your non-mortgage is too high - $2416 (AU). I thought #3 covered this!

Thanks for the reply llecs,
Darn! I was hoping juniper would be a good CL ok APR CC as I am not too confident about NatCity/PNC and there seem to be nobody else here in AL who pull TU. What was their reason for the ratejacking which does not make sense to me. But again, Ive no ideas about how it works, how to carry balances, how to avoid CLis, ratejacking, etc etc..
With Natcity, for my zip, there are 4 cards apparently available;
1) Points visa
2) Travel visa
3) Everyday rewards visa
4) Scrapbook rewards visa
Any particular order or difficulty? Ive never heard of these cards but everyday rewards visa.
Also generally, if I get approved for any CC based on a TU report, and they start reporting to all 3 and want to do an AR soft inquiry, would they still pull TU? I still have this baddie and also another baddie on EQ and EX and a review inquiry on say EQ would be pretty bad.
Hmm...cant seem to be able to apply for National City.
Unfortunately, we don't offer this product in your area. Please visit your local financial institution for assistance.
The above is what I get. Looked up some posts. It seems like this is pretty common and also that everyone is eligible. Is that correct? Also even if I want to go ahead and apply, I donot see an 'apply' button anywhere. Is it still possible to apply?
Ah!! Did the Recon for Juniper and was approved!....Asked me a few questions about what I am doing and stuff and about the chase CO ...I explained and then she said what she could do for me was give me the carnival sea miles with a 500 CL.
I asked if there was anyway I could get a better CL. She said that I have a thin file and the CO and would need to show some good history and they would give me CLIs. I took it. Will see how it goes.. Wil start GWing theheck out of chase now...
ETA: Is there a specific time limit before one could ask for a CLI? I mean can I call right away and ask for it for instance?
Also, Im thinking there are 3 reasons why she gave me a low CL
1) Chase CO
2) I still have some more way to go before I graduate from grad school is what she felt
3) My share of the household income is very low (I work P/T in a service station..
)
