They are removing the annual fee but devaluing the points.
I just got this card and was planning to PC it in a year anyway.

Just hope they don't devalue the points on the Reserve!
Kinda caught my eye now that I may be traveling more and its NAF.
Question: Is it inquiries or new accounts that USB is sensitive too, or both?

It is possibly less likely, since the Altitude Reserve is one of the flagship products of US Bank (the other flagship product: Cash+).
Let's see how the upcoming renovations on US Bank products would look like. It would be good, if they can somehow provide the feasibility to pool the reward points of multiple cards to be able to maximize the gain on AR. Anyway, if they might want to implement it, they may drop some benefits.
Since Cap1 decided to potentially take over Discover, the competitors should be innovative to be able to keep their rank in the market share.
Since the Connect and GO share their points balance if you have both, wonder if the GO would also get the .8 devaluation. Or maybe you can redeem via the GO at the standard rate. Not seeing anything yet on GO or Reserve redemption being nerfed. If that ends up being the case, I'll be PC'ing to a 3rd Cash+. Weird thing for US Bank to do.
Connect now looks like a sockdrawer Priority Pass benefit card for no AF. Since US Bank PP includes restaurants, that could be worth $112 in dining credit ($28 x 4) if someone needs infrequent lounge access or a travel meal here and there.
The newly announced Wells Fargo Autograph Journey looked to be a direct competitor for the Altitude Connect and Sapphire Preferred. The AC devaluation makes it look less appealing now, though it might gain some traction for not having an annual fee any longer.
I, too, hope US Bank doesn't devalue any of its other card offerings.
Surprised this hasn't been a topic of conversation yet but USBAC is changing as of Sept this year.
Highlights:
No AF, No FTF
TSA pre check or global entry
Priority Pass (4 visits per year)
3.2% travel and gas (after points devalue to 0.8 cpp)
For me, this seems like a no brainer since both P2 and I both have Global Entry and the limited priority passes would be great to have. The closest competitor would be PenFed's Pathfinder Rewards Visa which I also have. I use their card for the ancillary credit, GE reimbursement, and for mobile phone protection plan. While the Pathfinder does have Priority Pass, it's a pay-per-visit model, so this card would close that gap. Other than the PP and GE reimbursement, this card would mainly be a sock drawer card.
Here are the details of the card changes: https://www.myvisacardportal.com/usbank/en_us/altitude/altitudeconnect/offer-detail.html#upcoming-ch...

**bleep**.
Darn.
September is just about when I planned to be out of the garden and only 1/12, 3/24.
Might be a good time now to drop a couple thousand in a U.S. Bank checking/savings account in preperation for apping near the end of the year.
With the devaluation, both the multipliers and the cashback rates are kind of meh. But a $30 streaming credit and 4 PP coupons in a no AF card is pretty solid. The $400/year Altitude Reserve only gives 8 and the multipliers, save digital wallet, aren't that great either.
Weird strategy, unless they plan on beefing up the Altitude Reserve.
How stingy generally is USB on SLs?
Can you imagine Chase giving the CSP 4 PP coupons a year and getting rid of the AF?
