Re: AmEx Blue --> Blue Cash

I found a great quote on NYTimes website:

"Dear American Express:

Other financial institutions that have used investment strategies similar to ones you have been using seem to be going bankrupt at an unusually rapid pace. I have decided to use cancel my account and use another credit card issuer..."

Oh well, one less problem for choosing between different Black card versions. : )

Congrats on handling this so well. AmEx AA can be pretty stupefying, that's for sure.

If it cheers you up at all, you have to use a Blue Cash card a bunch to hit those high rewards. And then after a year, you start all over again.

It's great for those with a bunch of day to day expenses who are willing to make Blue Cash their primary card. I'd be such a basket case whipping it out at the gas pump and the grocery checkout and all the other exciting places in my life, wondering if it would be honored, that I think it would just wear me out.

I have never been to a place that hasn't accepted my AMEX blue cash.  Well there was one place but they were cash only and didn't accept any cards.

I only use my PenFed Platinum Cash Rewards now though.  I love the money I get for free.

I was referring to the little surprise that so many people are getting these days, when they find out the hard way that Amex lowered their limit or closed their account altogether. Smiley Happy

I have one and use it, but I sure wouldn't head out of the house without an alternate.

Forget CLI from Amex. It is a Dream.

I logged into my rarely used Blue account today to make sure I didn't owe anything and there was a link to get a CLI.  I clicked it, typed what I wanted and my income, and it approved instantly.  I only use it at Costco about three times a year and even used it at Walmart twice last fall for that weird cashback promo they had (and got the cashback just fine).  I dunno, maybe it's because I got a Discover CLI last month?  Maybe they want me to use it more?  Maybe I'm not a risk since I don't think I even signed up for any rewards and I always PIF?  It's totally a backup card for Costco only, but it's 10k of available credit for me (was $5500 until today).

FWIW I'm 800+ credit score.  Not sure how much it matters when it comes to Amex... seems a lot of ppl have problems with them.  Their card works just great for me, though.

Re: AmEx Blue --> Blue Cash

Yesterday I received a letter from Amex approving transfer from Blue to Blue Cash and telling how much they value my business. Given that they approved it over the phone a day before they cancelled the account, I will be awaiting another letter today telling that they don't care about my business anymore.

800 score definitely helps!

Re: AmEx Blue --> Blue Cash

My mother converted her Delta Skymiles AMEX to the Blue card since it doesn't have an annual fee. She received a letter from AMEX stating that the conversion would take place after her statement closes on March 11. I will update on any new info.

I think that CLI link is always there, but I'm nowhere near brave enough to even think of clicking it. Your CLI-link-clicking sounds like it worked out pretty well, so congrats - and congrats on the nice score(s), too! Smiley Happy
