AmEx reward point multiples

I have the AmEx Everyday Card, which is supposed to give 3x points for grocery stores.

During the summer I shop at the local greenmarket, and noticed that charges to some vendors get 3x points while others get 1x, even though they are listed in the merchant directory (https://awardwallet.com/merchants) as the same thing: "grocery stores".

Chatted up AmEx but they're sticking to the story that it depends on reporting outside the merchant directory, although they wouldn't say what the nature of that reporting might be.

Anyone know about this other reporting?  When is a grocery store not a grocery store? We're not talking Wal-Mart here. Is there a channel to "suggest" to AmEx, other than the customer service brushoff, that their point processor may be in error and either all grocery stores should get 3x or none of them should?

You're preaching to the choir here.

It all depends on what the billing codes as. You don't know what your green grocer is up to. He might be running a flea market from the same account.

I find the most reliable are "real" grocery stores, like Kroger.
