American Express Blue Cash Everyday, questions

I am looking for an every day use card for things like groceries and gas. If I could pay utilities with it too that would be great. I want rewards.  I am thinking about American Express Blue Everyday card but not sure if my scores and history would allow that. I just pulled my fico Experian - 759, Equifax - a low 704 and I get my transuion score via Walmart and Discover --739.

Are those scores high enough for American Express? I havent ever had any American Express cards. I just got my Discover and a Citi Thank You Preferred back in Oct 2013.

I can wait if I need to. I've always heard American Express is one of the most difficult cards to get, credit wise. Is this true? What do they look for? Think my scores are high enough? My oldest card is from 2010. Its a Capital One secured 1000.00 limit which I plan on cancelling shortly before the annual fee comes due.

Walmart has sent me a Walmart Discover but I havent activated it and probably won't since they are saying my credit limit will only be 2500.00 and its 3550.00 with my regular walmart card.

Any suggestions for other cards I can use for everyday purchases? I pay all cards in full every month, never carry a balance. I just rewards for purchases I have to make regularly. American Express Blue sounded good to me until I started googling and read they consider "other factors". What other factors?

Re: American Express Blue Cash Everyday, questions

I was approved for the BCE with only a 6 month credit history and EX score of 720. I also got the PRG and both were an instant approval. I think you  have a great chance at getting the card.

Do you know if they usually pull Ex? I have read that's what they pull which if true, would be great for me, since that's my highest score.

Yes they should pull EX (and can double pull EQ and/or TU if the application is borderline).

Re: American Express Blue Cash Everyday, questions

Applied for Amex around Nov-Dec 2013. Had a score of 665 (they pulled experian) 3 paid chargeoffs ( 2-3 years old) , 5 paid off student loans showing 90 day lates (2years old) uti was probably about 15%. Had 33 inquires ( inanced 2 cars withing a year) AAA was about 1 year. Got the discover it card about 3 months before, and a citi AA, Apped for the Amex Delta Card, got an instant approval for $1000. Did a PC 3 months later to my Amex Blue Cash Smiley Happy

They pulled EX for me which was suprirsing because I thought with my thin file it would be a triple pull. Took advantage of the 2 cards for 1 inquiry though!

Re: American Express Blue Cash Everyday, questions

Does anyone know what scores or other things they are looking for? Does it matter that I havent ever had an American Express card? Do they have an easier card to get that I should try for first to get my foot in the door?

What about other credit cards for everyday purchases...any suggestions? As I said before, I just want the rewards for things I have to buy any way. I dont plan on any big expenditures. AND of course I can wait if need be. I dont want to waste a hard pull if I dont stand a good chance.

Re: American Express Blue Cash Everyday, questions

Would you mind disclosing your score at the time you applied? 2 cards for one pull? I dont understand...did they offer you two different cards without you applying for two?

Re: American Express Blue Cash Everyday, questions

Your scores are better than mine ever were, so that shouldn't prevent you from getting the card you want. However, the Sallie Mae MasterCard gives more rewards than the Blue Cash Everyday in the Grocery + Gas categories according to my calculations:

TU-8: 804 EX-8: 805 EQ-8: 788 EX-98: 767 EQ-04: 752
TU-9 Bankcard: 837 EQ-9: 823 EX-9 Bankcard: 837
Total $443,800

If your EX score is in the mid 720's you have nothing to worry about. Their charge cards are easier to get and what you could do is apply for the green and if you get accepted,  immediatley apply for a Blue Cash card. If you get denied it'll only be a soft pull since you became an AMEX card member, if you get  accepted there's a really good chance you'll get both cards with only 1 inquiry.

As far as an everday card, I would recommend the Freedom. Has served me well so far and I like the 5% rotating categories.
