Re: American Express Card

It has not happened to me, but it could have. They did deny my charges at POS. Amex and I parted ways at least 15+ years ago and as I stated the only reason I would have them back is to get a TL on my reports dating back to 1978. I don't need anything or anybody high maintenance, including a CC issuer.

Re: American Express Card

If they ask me for proof of income thats fine I just wanted to know so I would be prepared to get the necessary paper work in order.

Re: American Express Card

DI I agree with you.   Never carry AMEX without a backup card.  Really no one should only carry one credit card regardless of the brand.  In fact I carry 1 debit card just in case AMEX  get PMS that day.  Amex is my card of choice I get love the rewards ( I have the gold rewards plus)  they keep pushing and tempting for platinum but really i refuse to pay $450 per year.  the perks are great  free roadside service,  get ticket for events  endless and yes I use them.

Ladyvg270 the card is not for the RICH or the rich only. I have amex and  I make a good living but not RICH.  DI how about you are your rich ????

ladyvg270 - apply for the amex card  follow your heart your luck is yours and yours only and you have done a fabulous job cleaning up your credit.  If they say no then try agian and again.  as long as you have proof of employment and do not mind the probing then fine.

maybe if other card company were actually checking and validating  earnings then some of us would not have to pay the price for others high defalult.  (I am not judging just making an observation)   Amex has excellent customer service and they are worht getting.

Warren Buffett himself made it very clear AMEX is the card of the crem de la crem of card holders  ( heard it myself on CNBC)

good luck go apply

I suppose I should call them. This one might be too much work. And, next May, the AF kicks in. I'm not certain I want to pay $95/yr for a $2k limit.

I app'd a Blue a month before the AF on the Gold was due to hit. It cost a hard inq on EX, of course, but there was no new account penalty, as it acquired the opening year for the Gold.

So if you were to do the same, your revolving (non-fee) AmEx would show an opening date of April 2009, instead of April 2010, which is handy.

I don't put a lot of reliance on my Blue, that's for sure. I moved my recurring cell phone charge over to PenFed to take advantage of their phone replacement deal, and now the Blue sits in the drawer. I take it out to a restaurant once a month, but that's about it. The rewards are pretty lame, as is true of almost all my cards these days. The glory days are pretty much over, that's for sure!

Re: American Express Card

I also have the AMEX COSTCO card it was opned this year it has the same date as the gold  pref rewards plus  2/1997.  Costo pays the AF  if I keep up costco membership.  But i buy most things at costco ie all  groceries every 2 months or so   +++++ things i do not need ah!

I was thinking about opening the amex blue cash and close the  Costco  but he rewards are not as good and I cannot afford to take another ding in inquiry.   I live in SW florida and the housing market here is a buyer's heaven so I want to purchase another house  next year so I am done opening any new cards for now

However to all those who consider amex I say go for it.

Re: American Express Card

What is the meaning of Amex getting PMS? I have seen this term used a lot in the forum but never figured it out.

Re: American Express Card

Heres an example of an AMEX PMS moment - which happened to me over a year ago and i immediately closed my amex account

In Jan of last year I spent over 15k on my plat card for overseas travel and business dinners, hotels, etc: I was away for almost the whole month.  At the end of the month, my company gave me a check and I paid in full the statement balance.

The next month, I go to best buy to purchase a new HDTV for $2500 - DECLINED

I called the 1800 number and i was subject to a Financial Review... please keep in mind, I charged over 5k per month on this card, always paid within 30 days and charge 15k one month, pay in full, and then I get a FR...   F'ing crazy those people are....

Now, the only amex I have is my corporate card, which i only use cause Im made to use it.

And that, my friend - is amex PMS
