Just a head's up to the board: I have the Delta Gold and my year was up on 01FEB. I received an invitation to upgrade for 10,000 mile but I declined. In May they sweetened the offer to 15,000 miles: a HUGE increase right???
Yesterday I was checking in to my Delta flight and I received a pop-up to apply for the Platinum. It was 70,000 for $4000 spend. I jumped and was approved.
I called AMEX to set travel notification and ask about the new app. So an upgrade takes 24 hours to process the card. The card number stays the same. A new app is a new account with a new number. So I asked the CSR why would anyone take the upgrade request as opposed to applying for a new card?
She said many people do not want the hassle of a new card number for reoccuring bills etc. So they can offer lower bonus miles for this convenience. So today I cannot get the benefits of the Lounge because I do not have possession of the new card. This is fine by me. I will take a 55,000 mile increase and not have the benefits of the new card today.
