Amex 2/90 rule strict ?

Hello,

I have been reading a bit about Amex rules and I noticed the 2/90 rule where you can only get 2 credit cards approved in a 90 days period. Charge cards are no part of that rule. However, according to this I was able to get 3 credit cards in 75 days.

I am asking for a friend who got approved for his first 2 Amex credit cards about 50 days ago.

Based on your own experience, it’s not strict. While not all experiences and results are the same......

Theres really no way to accurately answer your question. If we say yes, it strict. You can show us your results and say no it’s not. If we say no, it’s not strict. You friend could apply and be denied because of 2/90.

Double edge sword imo. Not sure what you want us to say here.

I'm just spit balling here, but I notice the third one e is a co-branded card.   It is possible that card is excluded from the 2/90 rule just like the Amazon Prime Rewards card is exclued from 5/24 with Chase.

Depends on what you mean by strict. A lot of people say you should only apply for a new card once every 3-6 months to keep inquiries down and to give you time to hit any SUBs. It's also generally advised to research Amex cards if you're going for a SUB as they're only offered once per lifetime.

If you're only asking how likely they are to stick to the rule, they really don't budge. Like stated above, the co-branded card may not have counted.
