Amex 61 Day CLI Denial Question

Quick couple questions for you guys. On my 61st day I went online and clicked the CLI luv button. I put in the 3x ammount, and got the dreaded 7-10 day message. Well, yesterday I finally got the letter in the mail detailing the reasons and..... the lone reason listed was FICO score.  To my surprise they showed my January 2104 EX FICO score?? It's the same score (639) that they gave me when they approved me for the Gold Delta Skymiles card. I think maybe my being a cardholder since 1999 might have had something to do with it, that they approved me for a card with a low score. For some reason my score dipped that month as it has been hovering between 653-654. Why would they look at a score from the card approval instead of one from two months later? Do you think I have a chance if I try to recon the ammount pointing out that my score is now 653? I also applied for a BCE card the same day as the CLI, so I'm sure they looked at the same old report. Think I have a chance reconning the denial of the card too?

Starting Score: EX 549 EQ 465 TU 477
Current Score: EX 714 EQ 681 TU 727 EX Fico (PSECU) 683 EQ Fico 676 (MyFico) TU Fico (WalMart) 701 as of 6/6/2014
Goal Score: 700's

Re: Amex 61 Day CLI Denial Question

Sorry for the denials. Based on my experience there is no chance of reconning a CLI denial. You will be eligible to ask again 90 days from the date of denial.

I don't have experience with recon on a card app denial. Good luck if you choose to go that route. I'm sure others can chime in too. Smiley Wink

Re: Amex 61 Day CLI Denial Question

I believe the 3x CLI is based on the last SP Amex has done on you. In your case the last SP was probably in Jan. I've seen threads recomending watching your EX report until they SP you then asking for the 3x CLI in cases where there's been a favorable change in your credit.

NFCU NavCheck $15k | NFCU cashRewards $12.5k | NFCU goRewards $12.5k |AMEX SPG $10k | Citi AA WEMC $6.5k | CSP $5k | Wal-Mart MC $4.5k | US Air WMC $3.9k | Amex Everyday $2k | Amex BCE $2k | Chase Freedom $1k | Discover IT $800
Current Scores:Equifax 697 (myFICO 4/14), TransUnion 699 (Discover 5/14), Experian 754 (Amex 5/14)

Re: Amex 61 Day CLI Denial Question

Yes, maybe I'll just wait for the next attempt at 90 days.I like the card and usually do not carry any balance at all on it when the statement cuts. It would just be nice to have the flexibility of a higher CL, plus it would look good  on the credit reports.  I really would rather have the BCE card or even the Costco True Earnings card as they would be very useful, plus the D* doesn't hurt either since I've been a card member since '99.

Yep, no reconsidering a CLI denial.

Just wait 90 days.. treat the card as if you've never received a denial and you will have a great chance at getting in then.

Good luck and the best of patience!

Re: Amex 61 Day CLI Denial Question

I feel like this points to AMEX being better at giving initials with borderline issues (scores, baddies, etc.)  than CLIs.  I say this because I also was denied CLI at day 61, and then again the second time I asked.  I was declined on CLIs  both times for having a past AMEX card relationship issue.  I don't think they are going to budge.

Since it was a soft pull anyway, I apped for PRG and SPG.  I was given a low limit for SPG--my lowest Visa or MC limit, actually,  but I am ok with that...I hope to get some CLI luv on day 61, but if I don't, I am ok with that, too.

I remain perplexed over why no CLI and then a PRG with NPSL, but I do think it points to Abeing ok on initial, but not so ok on CLIs. (I'm not upset.  I don't really understand why AMEX even gave me another chance.  I certainly wouldn't have.  My ex husband ran up our Green card right before the divorce and I was unable to pay it, so it ended up going to chargeoff.)

Sorry for the slight threadjack.

WOW! EQ when I joined myFICO: 657. Ups and downs and a few bumps and bruises, but finally back over 700. Whew!

Eligible to try after 90 days if declined a CLI and after 180 days if approved.

Is there any service where you can see real time who soft pulls your EX, or all the bureaus for that matter
