Did you ever get invited to GOLD or Plat 10-15 years ago? Unles you pushes 10-125K no way.

I have been pushing 6-10K a month on my Gold card with most of this being my employer's charges and me being reimbursed but of course AmEx doesn't know this. I have had the card almost 10 months and now I have been pre-approved for the Platty, but I'm not sure I will accept this because I don't want to re-age my credit files and take a hit to my scores since I will be house shopping in the next couple of months.

How many wealthy people are crying on a forum because they perceive Amex isn't prestigious anymore?
Too bad some people need access to the airport lounge to make themselves feel important.

Typical "SUB PRIME" atacker, I know you have to defend the card because you have it now. No need for pre school arguing this is a serous forum looking for insighfull thinking not ranting and raving from 3 year olds. This is not an I know you are but what am I forrum it's got to be friendly and helpful.

Well fused perhaps I am still confused by ddd's argument.  He (she?) seems to waiver between creditworthiness (i.e. fico score) and the amount of money one can push through the card as problematic.   I'm sure everyone knows that fico scores and income/spending don't always have a direct correlation.  In my case, I make well in the six figures and don't mind paying for the things I want.  However, my credit scores are only recently in the upper 600s (mid-score of 680) thanks to myfico.  As ddd has mentioned, under the old Amex regime, you would need BOTH high ficos and high income.  I'm sure ddd will correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems I remember him mentioning that he had ficos in the 600s.  If that's the case, he probably wouldn't have gotten the card himself under old "prestigious" Amex.

ddd what's the crux of your "loss of prestige" argument?  Are you upset that customers with less than high ficos can get the card, thus making them a less than prime lender?  Or are you upset that modest earners/spenders can get the card?

I dont care who has the card we are tlaking about OLD AMEX VS NEW SUB PRIME AMEX. Nothing personal I could care less not my money or my credit that is being used. If you dont know anything about OLD AMEX then this forum is not for you. Remember friendly and Insighful

Re: Amex Charge Card Prestige is OVER

ddd, are happy with your amex association? if not vote w/your feet and let them know that thier lower acceptance criteria has diluted the wow factor and your moving you buis to uber primes.

if enough people take this approach then guys like me will be surprised twice, when i got the card and when i get cancelled.

not trying a sub prime attack approach, just saying if they have become your first premeire kick them to the curb.

Re: Amex Charge Card Prestige is OVER

Well folks it seems that someone has gotten cranky because I dared to school him on the power of marketing and how it can be used to pull the wool over people's eyes (without them even knowing it as it appears in this case).  It's one of the reason's that facial tissues are overwhelmingly referred to as "Kleenex."  Since respectful discourse is no longer possible, I hope the OP has plenty of Kleenex to lament his disillusionment over an image that only exists in the human psyche.  By the way, you do know there's no Santa Claus, right?

I guess some people measure prestige in terms of how much money they can spend.   I'm glad my worthiness is not measured by my bank account.  How sad and empty.

I fly twice a month on Continental I have elite status but that still dosent give me acces to their Lounges. The clu acces is like $400 bucks, The Plat still has the best perks in my book it really works for me living in Chicago. But you're right get rid of what you dont like.

You seem to kinda unerstand what I'm tlaking about. Everyone here is atacking me becuse they are feeling ofended. I'm only stating what then when my parents had AMEX to what is NOW that WE all have acces.

Fused agreed with me a couple other people have to becuse they know about OLD AMEX. The majority of my stackers have no clue about OLD Amex and they feel this is a personal atack.

Do you live in the US? You are absolutley measured by you're bank account. SAD but thru, you will need the Kleenex when you FR'd becuse you got in SUB PRIME. I didnt make rules I'm simply stating the obvious, again you know nothing about OLD Amex. I dont care to school you if you dont know you will never know. It's kinda like if you have to ask for the price you cannot afford it. Thats old AMEX you will never understand living in you're SUB Prime world.

Yes, it's an additional account that would negatively factor in my average-age of accounts. A new inq wouldn't help either. So no, this would not be treated as an upgrade or conversion with repest to scoring..
