Amex Charge Cards. What’s your limit

Thought it might be helpful / useful to see what everyone’s Internal Maximum for purchases.

Post some data points.
Highest charge you’ve ever made ?

Largest amount you’ve been approved for through check spending power ?

Amex Revolver credit limits, if any ?

Credit scores ?
Any negatives ?

I’ll start.
Largest actual purchase: 5.6k for a work trip

Largest spending power check : 9K

My internal limit seems to be about 9K, if I currently have pending or posted charges. I can only get approved for a charge minus the current balance up to 9K

1 Amex Revolver: 2K limit

Credit scores :
631 EX
650 TU
653 EQ

Collections: 3

My PRG is 1 month old right now

I didn’t really think about that.

I was trying to create a data point thread that would help others.
Maybe I should add profile points as well.

Re: Amex Charge Cards. What’s your limit

The largest purchase I think I made on the PRG was for a cell phone. $900.

I have been approved to spend 14.5k online.

I have never charged more than 2k though.

I know AMEX likes me a lot.

I have been given the Pay Over Time feature too.

My scores are 701, 708 & 716 atm.

Squeaky clean CR. 13% utilization.

Re: Amex Charge Cards. What’s your limit

This isn't that useful to know. For example, I recently had to make a charge of about $2800 on my Platinum which I hadn't used for a month or two (I really only use it for airline tickets, the airline credit or if I added any useful offers on it) and I double-checked with the "check to see if your transaction will be approved" tool and it wasn't approved due to being unusual. I just called and said "I'm going to be making a 2800 purchase tomorrow, just letting you guys know" and the CSR said "that's fine, thanks for telling us" and then I went on with it. So what you're approved/not approved for isn't really important.

That was handy to know. Thanks.

Member since 2002.  Highest charge was around $20k.  Highest I ever did on Check Spending Ability was $75k on Platinum and it was approved (note: a former Amex employee here has advised not to play with the button unless you actually plan on making a purchase).  My current Amex revolvers are at $26.5k; hoping to hit $100k in 2018.  FICO 08 scores currently in 740s due to utilization and loads of new accounts.  No negative credit history ever.  Probably important to note that I have run a LOT of money through Amex over the past 15 years.

Why is playing with the button a bad idea ?

Because Pooka89 (who was until recently an Amex employee) says so.  From other mentions Pooka89 made, in addition to them doing a preauthorization and expecting you to actually make that charge within a week or so, it also reduces your internal spending limit until that preauthorization has lifted.  Hitting it too many times in a short period of time will flag your account for fraud, as it's assumed your card and account may have been compromised and someone may be trying to see how much they can charge.
