I called amex yesterday because I recently got my delta gold and asked if I could get my card with the EMV chip. The csr told me that they couldn't give me a card with the chip and that they would maybe start doing this some time next year. Can anyone confirm if this is true? I've seen some recent posts about the EMV chip being attained with this card so I wonder if my rep was just dumb.
I tried 3 different reps to try and get one on my SPG card and had the same problem, so I never even tried for my other two Amexs. Don't understand why they can't just do it, I'm supposedly on some waiting list and they will email when it's possible. Even though others already have it. It's a shame.
I kind of just want to try a backdoor number and see if I can get anywhere. How recently have you tried?
I tried twice in March and the third time last month on the 20th. I would like to see the route others have gone to get this done as well. I tried through chat and also by telephone (they called me).
I know people want it ASAP for some reason, but generally using the SPG abroad isn't great (with FTF) and there are still few opportunities to use in the US, so I don't think you are missing out by waiting!
So are their chances better at getting the chip on the Delta card (assuming there's no FTF, don't know much about the card)?
On another subject, why wouldn't we want them right away? I'm not sure where you live in the US but I live in Austin and those machines are popping up every where now. Why not have the chip to better protect ourselves? Especially with all the crappy people out there trying to steal our information.
Edit: Typo
That's the thing though. I am going abroad soon so I feel like it's a great excuse to try and push for it. I don't understand why they would make a card branded toward travellers with no ftf but then say you can't get get the chip for no good reason. Then they try to sugarcoat it and tell you how great the card is and that it has no ftf. Great, thanks. I clearly know the features of the credit cards I apply to.
They must have a shortage on these cards across their whole line-up. When I upgraded to the Platinum, it showed a Chip + Sig card. The one I received in the mail does not have it. They seem to be adopting the Chip+Sig very slowly. Histerically, the first Chip+Sig card I received from them on their "improving customer security" was on my Zync card that I never used and cancelled anyway.
I find it odd it's such a big deal for them to do it, each time I tried the reps acted as if it were no problem and told me what they were doing step by step, took over 10 minutes each time, them moments later said it wasn't possible at this time. Very frustrating. Maybe I'll try again, this time on my PRG.
