Just an FYI for those that started out with low limits. My hubby has had his card since 12/17, always denied for CLI.
Today we contacted them as his fifth statement cut and still no increase. I mentioned the welcome email that stated the "steps" in which he would get an increase. I honestly don't remember this email, but apparently it was in fact the case.
They researched and stated he did meet one requirement, you must use the card all five months consecutively. Yes our bad we apparently didn't use the card in February. The CSR tried to say he only used it in March and May which was completely false as I had all his statemen's pulled up on my tablet!!!! She said well I don't see that what???. His cellphone started billing in March, we got gas in January and yes missed Feb which is completely our fault.
So this is just a heads up to anyone make sure you use card every month, even if it's for a coffee or gum. Lesson learned 😯
Thank you for sharing... DW is in a similar relationship with Amex and we're not terribly impressed.
She's still got some zero percent intro time left, but it's paid off and sock drawered... I doubt it will get much more use.
Yes we have not been impressed much either
. He has a hilton 1000SL as well and that is in .SD, so I know we aren't seeing an increase there😕
Don't give up completely... for the last three years I've been stating how I could only get auto-CLIs from Amex, but just a few days back they approved my first ever user-requested CLI. It was modest (I only asked for $2500 since I was "sure" it would be declined anyway) but I'm finally out of the doghouse. ![]()
Keeping in mind that my own card started out with a $1000 limit I'm proof that they can grow, even if you burned them in the past (not saying that's the case here, but it was with me). It might take pumping some usage through it and a little patience, though.

Thanks @UncleB. Yes we did burn them 13 years ago so I am completely happy we got back in, it just sometimes frustrating how the CSR handles things, I have 2 very recent experiences and was not impressed.
I know I have be patient but sometimes like to vent 😉

Denied at 61 and denied at 181.

For those of us (like myself) with negative past history with Amex the stuff in the 3X guide often doesn't apply.

Oh yes this happened to both of ours. That is not always a gimme
