Amex Hilton EMV chip issues?

So I've had my AMEX Hilton since March 2016. I love this card and use it for 30-40% of my monthly spend.

I've noticed that whenever I use this card at CVS - there is always an issue. I have to insert it into the chip reader at least twice before it will work. When I used it yesterday I tried it 4 times and gave up and ended up using a different credit card. It's only this card that gives me a problem.

90% of the other places where I use this card doesn't require me to use the chip so it's not a huge deal but down the road it could be an issue as more vendors will have  EMV chip reader devices.

Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?

At least the merchant was smart enough to not let you swipe after the chip failed, defeating the whole purpose of the chip. I know if I were a merchant who accepted chip cards I'd say, "Chip card not working? You're not allowed to swipe, please use another card." Good job on CVS's part. I've heard of some merchants allowing the customer to swipe the card after the chip fails, which shouldn't be acceptable or even allowed. Merchant terminals should be programmed to not accept swipe as a back up.

Regarding your chip, I would call AMEX and request you get a card overnighted since your chip isn't working properly. You should be allowed to use your card everywhere American Express cards are accepted without resistance. I have heard of other people having issues with their chips, so don't feel singled out.

I've had it happen with a couple other cards maybe once each. Never anything I really worried about. Those instances for me may have just been a coincidence and nothing to be concerned with.

I did request a replacement card today. I did the request using the automated system.  I should have it on Friday.  Didn't think about calling in to ask to have it overnighted to me.  Hopefully a new card will resolve the issue.
