I take pride in using my Amex and am happy always with the service! Superb fraud protection!!
well my DW went to RH and ordered a sectional with all the pieces I was only helping with the color while at work..
today I'm reviewing the dang card to pay it.... andddddd I guess the lady accidentally charged us 3 times.. $13,300.....
so I called the RH S.A that has always helped us... she apologized and said a refund will be issued in 5-7BD and emailed us refund details.
I really thought Amex would have flagged it after the second but I guess not... I guess they assumed DW would spend 40k at RH... I'm sure she would love that.. but I freaked out today while logging in.
in other words... everybody keep checking your activity frequently!!!

Wow, same amount at the same place within a short time went through? Geez, when the freekin gas pump clicks off at $75 now, I can't even use the same credit card again to finish it off.
Generally fraud protection triggers when a charge is made without the physical card being there or absent the security code. In your case it probably passed the smell test since furniture tends to be large purchases. As you pointed out should be no excuse to check your credit card bill regularly with the availability of online apps. If there were multiple charges I guessed you let the clerk take your card instead of dealing with a pos device
If you have alerts on for your card you would have known immediately that it went through 3 times and could have had it fixed there.

Yep I was about to say, every card I own I get a text when the card is used. That's how I was able to catch Amazon swiping my Chase card on my sisters account when her card declined. Why they used my card and not her other credit card on file is beyond me 🙄

I remember this happened when I had a new card sent to me due to fraud and they emailed me to change my payment method. I don't think it automatically chooses another card on file. She may have accidentally changed the payment method to yours if that's the case.

If there was a human reviewing the transactions, sure... maybe. But this could also be three like items with the same price. I've made several large same-priced transactions on my Platinum within a minute of each other without issue. (For receipt purposes) I personally review all my cards nearly every night. (yes, I'm nuts - but everyone needs a hobby. Right? Right?)
As long as you're in good standing and have the credit available and the transaction looks valid, they will let it pass. IMO if I'm making a purchase (more so if it's a large one) and it's denied, I'm going to be infinitely more pissed than if it's allowed to go through and I catch it while reviewing my purchases.
Amex knows denying customers transactions makes them look bad (there's not much worse than "your card was denied") too.
